SUMMARY:

This master's dissertation is linked to the Graduate Program in Contemporary Education, at the
Federal University of Pernambuco – Centro Acadêmico do Agreste (PPGEDUC/UFPE–CAA),
in the line of research: Education and Diversity. Faced with the school scenario where
legislation and customary pedagogical practices limit Religious Education, treating it only
under the religious aegis, markedly disconnected from vital processes, we ask ourselves: How
can the mystique of the Landless Rural Workers Movement - MST collaborate with Religious
Education? This epistemic concern motivated the realization of this scientific production that
aimed to understand the processes of Religious Education and the possible contributions of the
mystique of the Landless Rural Workers Movement to this curricular component. We seek,
theoretically, to identify religious and non-religious sacred elements present in the experience
of human beings, to highlight Religious Teaching from a secular perspective, its historical path
and respective legal frameworks and, finally, to analyze the constituent elements of the MST's
mystique along with its founding principles and mobilizing force, and their contributions to
Religious Education. Menezes (2013), Corbí (2014), Peter Berger (2000), Rudolf Otto (2017)
helped us in this theoretical-methodological path. Mircea Eliade (1982), Aragão (2021),
Junqueira (2002), Xavier (2007), Peloso (2012), Comblin (1985), Bogo (2002), Gutiérrez
1984), Lage (2015), among others. The qualitative approach methodology was considered from
the Extended Case method, created by Boaventura de Sousa Santos (1983). Data collection was
supported by semi-structured interviews, participant observation and writing of the field diary
built in the Normandia Settlement of Caruaru-PE. With Bardin's Content Analysis (1977), we
carried out the organization and analysis of the data. With the contribution of the realities
observed and studied, we were able to make the following inferences: The MST contributes to
the experiences of Religious Education, inspiring us with an Anthropology of the
Sensitive/Militant; the understanding of the Sacred Liberator as a criterion of a humanizing
Religious Teaching and Mystique as a ritualized experience of the human being fills with
meanings of being and living in search of social transformation and emancipation of the subjects
in relation.
