Agroecology. Critical Mathematics Education. Mathematics-in-action. Alternative Technologies Service.
The research aims to understand mathematics-in-action in the Technical Course of Secondary
Level in Agroecology at the Alternative Technology Service in Pernambuco, looking for work
on agroecological knowledge. To fundament it, we base on the domains of Agroecology as a
science, mode of production, and social and political movement; in Field Education, as a
territory for the production of agroecological knowledge; and in Critical Mathematics
Education, with a focus on the concept of mathematics-in-action. Three professors from the
course, who teach the curricular components History of Social Movements in the rural area,
Nutrition and Organic Fertilization, Environmental legislation, participated in the research. The
data were collected through the following instruments: analysis of the Pedagogical Political
Project (PPP), course plans and texts written by teachers; observation and analysis of recordings
of web seminars (classes), realized during the Covid-19 pandemic period; and semi-structured
interviews with participating teachers. We analyzed the data in the light of the following
analytical categories: technological imagination, hypothetical reasoning, and Critical
Mathematics Education. By aiming to approach agroecological knowledge, teachers
mathematics-in-action is related to agroecology's practice dimension, associated with the
economic, social, and productive dimensions, and agroecosystem management. Mathematical
contents from Magnitudes, Numbers, Statistics and Geometry, were the most used by teachers
in the examples and activities in web seminars.
