SUMMARY:

Chapter I of this research, considered qualitative in nature, carried out a historical overview from 1786, the year of foundation of the Parish of N. Sra. from the Presentation of the Stairs to the celebrations of its Bicentennial that took place on April 27, 1986. Next, we point out the renovation works carried out in the Igreja Matriz de N. Sra. of the Presentation of the Stairs that had the objective of promoting the new liturgical adaptations implemented by the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, proposing to the people a greater participation in the Catholic liturgical ritual. We also present a sequence of achievements promoted by Father Geraldo Leite Bastos together with the people, which marked the beginning of the liturgical year from the Walk of the Holy Year of Redemption, a movement seen by the parish community of Escada as an act of faith and pilgrimage that interconnected the entire Lenten period, passing through the celebrations of Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, Marian Month, Corpus Christis until arriving at the feast of Santo Cristo, King of the Universe and the festivities of N. Sra. of the Ladder Presentation. In chapter II of this research we present the priest and composer Geraldo Leite Bastos showing his personal characteristics and his contributions to liturgical music in the communities of Ponte dos Carvalho, Morro da Conceição and Escada. We highlight the collective concept of the song Salve a Nação do Divino and the aspects of its
artistic and phonographic production. We close this chapter talking about the song of resistance sung by the followers of Father Geraldo Leite Bastos after his death, the conflicts and prohibitions surrounding his memory, the Coral Padre Geraldo Leite Bastos and the period we set aside to observe it. We will present in chapter III of this research the emergence of a new community of faith in the municipality of Escada with the construction of beautiful chapels made by Father Geraldo Leite Bastos together with popular support. Then, we will address the political aspects of Geraldina's actions in the municipality of Escada, which revolve around social and labor issues, as evidenced in the case of the expulsion of Father Vito Miracapillo in September 1980, and his involvement in the labor causes of municipal teachers in Escada and Rural Workers whose rights were violated by landowners in Escada. Further on, we will show the dimensions of the pastoral work carried out by Father Geraldo Leite Bastos in the municipality of Escada, present in the liturgical celebrations held in the Igreja Matriz de N. Sra. of the Presentation of Escada and in its close relationship of proximity with the neighborhood
communities. Finally, we bring the contributions of Julieta de Sena Wanderley, the first active musician in the Parish of N. Sra. of the Presentation of Escada and precursor of a liturgical music that precedes the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, presenting the importance of its music and its performance for the religious service of the Church in Escada. The emergence of the Padre Geraldo Leite Bastos Community Center in the early 1990s and the creation of the Museu Virtual Memórias de Padre Geraldo Leite (@memoriasdepadregeraldoleite) which emerged, among other things, as a research tool to give visibility to aspects of Geraldina’s performance in the municipality of Escada.
