SUMMARY:

Intuition is usually present in interactions between human beings and technological artifacts, such as on occasions when we handle new gadgets without reading the manufacturers’ instructions. In the places where music is produced for digital media, the profusion of new technologies and digital artifacts increases the importance of intuitiveness, in senior professionals, as a true skill that allows them to extract new information from their memories and establish connections and ontological associations. But, what if, from the beginning of their professional studies, the student perceives this possibility of making analogies and ontological connections between the various digital objects, how will this affect their intuitiveness? The purpose of this study was to analyze the perception of intuition in students in the undergraduate music course at the Federal University of Pernambuco, who used some Digital Audio Workstation software (DAW) for the very first time, and how the knowledge of ontologies can affect this perception. The research had the following specific objectives: 1) To understand how it is, for a group of six students who took the subjects MU945 - Technology Applied to Music Education and/or MU679 - Sound Recording, to perform a simple mixing task in some DAW software that they have never used before; 2) Compare the perceptions of the participants who performed the task before watching an introductory video on ontologies, produced by the researcher, with the perceptions of the participants who performed the task after watching the same video; and 3) Describe the emerging structures of the reported experiences that allow explaining and interpreting possible relations between ontologies and intuitiveness, in the context of the study. This qualitative, phenomenological research obtained its empirical data from semistructured interviews and analysis of the phonograms produced by the students. Data interpretation reveals intuition, in the context of the use of technological artifacts, as a probabilistic knowing. Intuition ́s operation is configured by the chaining of three events. In the first one, the person is faced with an immediately unknown reality and starts recognizing the images and objects of that reality. In the second event, the person runs his own memory looking for similar images in order to find connections, make correlations and establish connections
between them. The third event is a logical test, whether true ends the action, and false, triggers an iteration, testing another imagery possibilities. The practice of describing things through their ontological relations can help in the production of these images. The study allows us to think about the development of an intuitiveness in the initial training of music teachers.
