This work consists of a research on how instrumental expressiveness can exercise the indication of a cultural identity. To this end, the same was done through the analysis of the work of the Brazilian harmonica player Rildo Hora, one of the greatest representatives of the chromatic harmonica in Brazil, as well as a music producer, composer and arranger. Initially, the research starts from the analytical question of understanding how Rildo Hora developed a musical identity in his expressiveness, taking the chromatic harmonica as an instrument in his compositions and presentations. In the course of the work, I developed reflections regarding the issues of cultural identity under theoretical concepts based on the studies of Stuart Hall, Néstor Canclini and Pierre Bourdieu, in addition to pointing out the methodological choices used. Then I built a historical contextualization of the chromatic harmonica, including its trajectory in Brazil. In continuation, I showed a brief biography of Rildo Hora, thus starting the analysis of his work under the historical aspect, ending with the musical analysis of two of his compositions which represent his identity expression.
