SUMMARY:

This research presents an analysis of the formation process of five different generations of clarinetists who are currently part of the Sociedade de Cultura Artística 22 de November, located in the municipality of Paudalho-PE. Throughout its 169 years, this sesquicentennial philharmonic band has contributed significantly to the diffusion of musical learning by individuals residing in the local community and neighboring regions. Through documentary research it was possible to obtain information about the history of the previously mentioned music band, enabling a better understanding of the structuring of the learning process in the institution in periods of time before the generations of clarinetists interviewed in the research. The semi-structured interviews carried out with the participants offered answers to the specific objectives proposed: to identify which teaching materials are available in the Cultural Society Artística 22 de Novembro between different generations of clarinetists; to analyze how these clarinetists perceive the learning process experienced in the Sociedade de Cultura Artística 22 de Novembro and to analyze the influence of the social context in the process of learning of these musicians. The research objectives are articulated with the notion of habitus, formulated by Bourdieu and discussed by Lahire (2002; 2005) when considering the performance of more specific individual dispositions for the configuration of a biography by the individual. During the investigation, it was found that there were changes in the clarinet learning process at the Sociedade de Cultura Artística 22 de Novembro throughout the generations interviewed and that these happened according to the choices made by some of the participants not to remain restricted to the musical knowledge acquired in the context of the music band, which, in a certain moment of their lives, chose to develop their musical skills in other educational spaces.
