SUMMARY:

This case study aimed to know the process of building the expertise of a violin teacher considered an expert by his peers and its relationship with the training of instrument teachers. The specific objectives were: to map the knowledge of the teacher interviewed and to analyze and discuss the existing hierarchy between this knowledge and skills in the teaching profession. To achieve these goals, I bring as a theoretical framework the light of Kotzee's theory (2014), which starts from Collins' three-dimensional model of knowledge (2013) and expands this model by proposing another adapted model, where there is a differentiation of the expertise of each profession, represented by axes that indicate the degree of esotericism, tacitity and sociability of the profession. Studies on teaching knowledge are also part of the theoretical framework of this research and in it we will see the perspectives of its main theorists: Tardif (2010) and Gauther et al (2013), to enter the field of music education, with works that talk about the teaching knowledge of music teachers and instrument teachers. The data generation took place through a documentary research and later through an online semi-structured interview, carried out through the Google Meet platform. The data revealed that environmental conditions, first life experiences, habits, opportunities, resilience, motivational aspects, emotional involvement with the object of study, effort, deliberate practice and external support were very important. in the construction of the interviewee's expertise. It was found that during teaching practice, the interviewee uses more tacit/verbal and sociability knowledge than esoteric knowledge and that the course that wants to train a good violin teacher needs to offer more practical than theoretical subjects in its curriculum. A hierarchy of knowledge was also found, in which esoteric knowledge supports tacit knowledge, and the two together support the teacher's knowledge of sociability.
