The texts that circulate on the internet have specific characteristics, since they are produced online. According to Paveau (2021), such texts can be considered digital natives, because, according to the authoress, they are verbal productions elaborated online, whatever the writing devices and tools. These productions deserve greater attention from language studies, since it becomes necessary to understand the mechanisms that involve the production, circulation and reception of such texts. Thus, this research aims to understand how referential processes contribute to the argumentative dimension and the construction of the point of view in webnews published on Instagram. Based on the theoretical contribution in the field of Textual Linguistics, we investigated the referentiation, as a parameter of textuality (CAVALCANTE et alii, 2020) for the construction of meanings in digital news published on the Instagram profile of Diario de Pernambuco. Therefore, we understand that this social network has guidelines and specificities that interfere and guide the composition of these digital native texts, besides to offering resources that can compose the production, modifying the configuration of the genre traditionally published in the printed version and later in the portals of news. For that, we rely on Paveau (2010, 2020 and 2021) to guide the discussion on digital native discourse; in Amossy (2011, 2016, 2020a, 2020b) and Cavalcante (2019) to discuss about the argumentation; in Mondada and Dubois (2003), Marcuschi (2002, 2004), Custódio Filho (2011), Matos (2018) and Cavalcante et alii (2020) to discuss about the referentiation. Regarding to the notion of point of view, we will discuss the contributions of Rabatel (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017) and Cortez (2011a, 2013). Moreover, we seek theoretical support in the field of journalistic communication (LAGE, 1987, 2004; JORGE, 2013; BERGAMO, 2011; MEGID, 2006) to investigate the news, because this text that was primarily printed, now circulates widely in the digital environment. As for the methodology, we adopted a qualitative-quantitative analysis that investigates the news posted on @diariodepernambuco through the referential processes of introduction, anaphora and deixis and the management of points of view that is evidenced in the relationship between speaker/journalist enunciator and presentified enunciators on the webnews.

In the current conditions of production, more and more subjects, in our social formation, are fans of social networks, especially relationship applications. Since its creation in 2012, Grindr, a homoerotic dating app, has had an increasing number of users. With more than 10 million downloads made, the application has space for the heterogeneous constitution of subjects. Men-subjects who subscribe to the application seek the commodification of the body, inciting the desire of the other, of the possible subject-user. According to Vinhas (2021), the subject constitutes itself as an image of its body, that is, the body is the body of a subject, so that ideology also crosses it and makes it signify (VINHAS, 2014). I seek to analyze, with this work, inscribed in the theoretical-methodological device of Discourse Analysis by Michel Pêcheux, the functioning of the discourse of the commodification of the body from the discursivities collected in this relationship application. For this, taking up the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Pecheuxtian DA, in the first chapter, I discuss the notion of body, materiality, language, ideology, etc., analyzing three profiles in which I identify a process of selling the body. In the second chapter, I present the notions of virtual space, digital media, among others, in order to describe the features of Grindr. In this chapter, I analyze the functioning of the application's screens and tabs, in order to understand the subject's subjectivation movements that take place there. Finally, in the third chapter, with clippings made from Grindr, I work with materialities that textualize the male body as an object of the other's desire, so that the body slides into the commodity-body. Even though the body, in labor relations, has always been subjected to the oppression of capital, this functioning now presents itself in another way: the commodified body on Grindr is intertwined with a functioning of ideology, in its most perverse form (GRIGOLETTO, 2017), which makes the subject believe in his freedom, since, in this context, there would be no other subject under his control. From the analytical work, I understand that the body, the subject's materiality, crossed by commodification, slides into the commodity-body, which, through the subject's movements in the network, means by its inseparable entanglement to ideology, covered by a digital layer, that allows capital to produce other forms of domination.

This master’s dissertation aimed to establish an investigative study on the presence of religiosity aspects in the poetry by Maria do Carmo Barreto Campello de Melo, as well as the singular importance of her work for the study of religiosity and the sacred in literature, through the analysis of the nuances of meaning that the religious aspects produce in her poetic work and how the concept of religiosity and the sacred are constituted, realized and constructed textually in her work. To this objective, we followed the theoretical contributions developed mainly by Alex Villas Boas (2016), Anco Márcio Tenório Vieira (2017), Antonio Magalhães (2022), Eugene Webb (2012) and Maria Clara Bingemer (2015), among other authors; we also focused on the critical fortune of her poetic work according to the texts by Sébastien Joachim (1998), ngelo Monteiro (2012) and Fátima Quintas (2018). Based on these reflections, we proceed with the analysis of the author's poems that present marks of religiosity and reflect the search for the meaning of life and existence, as a way of understanding how this relationship is constituted in her poetics.

Learning foreign languages, especially those spoken in countries which are economically important in world history such as English, German, Spanish and French, was restricted to the Brazilian elite for many centuries. This scenario has changed since the second half of the 20th century due to the advance of globalisation and, consequently, the development of new technologies that allows communication between different countries. As part of this new social and economic outlook, economic blocs, for instance, the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, were created and, hence, an advance in integration and mobility took place in order to fulfil the lack of skilled workers who are able to live and work in different places without language barriers. Therefore, It would be necessary for workers who are already integrated in the labour market to learn new languages and, concomitantly, for schools to invest in language teaching and in this way, even more mobility can be granted to future generations. Thus, in order to learn languages as fast as possible, new methods and educational approaches needed to be developed. This paper is about the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach which originated in Europe and which aims to accelerate language learning by teaching content and language in the same class. Although it was developed at the end of the last century, this approach only gained strength in Brazil from 2010 onwards with the emergence and growth of bilingual programmes in primary schools commercialised by national and international publishers. In order to analyse the application of this approach, we started the research by investigating the historical context of second language teaching and learning in the country, from the arrival of the Portuguese until the present days, taking into consideration the social, political and educational background of that era. Subsequently, we present the CLIL approach in detail, its origin and characteristics, as well as its variations in Brazil. Finally, we investigate the application of CLIL characteristics in textbooks used by bilingual programmes in the city of Recife, books that claim to use this approach as their guidance basis. The aim of this research is to offer support to department heads and teachers who want to implement a bilingual programme in their schools using CLIL as the basis for their bilingual education.

This research brings a literary analysis of the intertextual and intermedia elements found in the work of Hermilo Borba Filho, based on the study of the novel Agá (2019), establishing connections with other languages, such as theater, dance, and comics. Hermilo's work is guided by an intrinsic relationship between his life, his hometown, Palmares, and a poetic look at the cultural practices of the Northeast region. We used, initially, the theories of Linda Hutcheon (1980, 2013) and Patricia Waugh (2001), to examine issues of intertextuality and autofiction, analyzing the paths found by the author in the structure of the cited novel, which interrelates, through the self-narrator, elements of fiction and reality. Regarding intermediality, we investigated the intersemiotic relations between theater and dance performances produced in Recife based on Hermilo's literary work, mainly adaptations of short stories, adding here the theoretical perspective of Walter Moser (2006) to Hutcheon's thinking. In another approach, we analyzed specifically the chapter "O livro dos mortos", which belongs to the novel Agá, composed of a comic book, illustrated by the visual artist José Cláudio. For this analysis, we related specific concepts of this narrative language, which uses the relationship between text and image, anchored in the thought of Barbara Postema (2018), Thierry Groensteen (2015) and Will Eisner (1989), authors who support the study of comics as a sign system with an autonomous language. Finally, we reflected upon some characters of the story, under the gaze of Cultural Studies, in particular, race and gender issues, relating them to the socio-political structure of their time and context in which the novel Agá was written, the period of the Brazilian military dictatorship. As a conclusion, we highlighted two relevant points: the first concerns to an analytical and intersemiotic survey between Hermilo's writing and the contemporary theater production in Pernambuco, which may contribute to future studies in the field of literature and performing arts; and the second consists in the production of theoretical and analytical material for the study of comics, within the context of Comparative Literature, which reinforces the scientific and relevant character of this language.

This research has as its main purpose analyse, under the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), especially based on Norman Fairclough and Gunther Kress and Theo Van Leeuwen works, the representation of suicide in the American Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. It is chased, as specific purposes, reflect about how discourse practices act in the way to sustain or suspend the social structure to maintain the discourse domination of stereotyping, guilting, exposing, and silencing suicide. Considering the importance of discussing about it, as a social phenomenon, public health issue and human crises, I conduct this research in the way of the understanding social basis views of suicide, as from observation of social and discursive aspects, in view of elements in the representational construction of the aforementioned series signifying suicide. It will be considered, thus, the perspective, social distance, transnationality, modality, salience and symbolic conception in the discursive audio-visual construction (Kress and van Leeuwen, 2006 [1996]), as its modes of evaluation, named evaluation stance, category based on Fairclough (2003). Therefore, I will analyse the first season, for it on in the main character, Hannah Baker, consummate her suicide, besides mention the “13 reasons” for her self-provoked death. Based on the analyses undertaken, it is possible to notice how social structures become reproductive of prejudice, taboos, and stereotypes, which crystallizes and potentiates excluding and silencing behaviours against people considered “suicidal”.

This dissertation aims at analyzing the relationship between intonation contours and the production and perception of propositional attitudes in interrogative sentences. By means of loud reading audio files recorded by 24 elementary school teachers from the city of Ipojuca, Pernambuco (PE), 4 melodic patterns of the interrogative mode are analyzed: neutral yes-no question, request for confirmation, incredulous yes-no question and rhetoric yes-no question, as described by Moraes (2008). This thesis is based upon the theoretical model on Intonational Phonology as studied by Pierrehumbert (1980), Ladd (1996) and Gussenhoven (2004). In addition, we find theoretical background in the works on prosodic-intonational functions analysis as postulated by Troubetzkoy (1949), Jakobson, Fant and Halle (1951), Fónagy (1993), Pierrehumbert and Hischberg (1990), Aubergé (2002a, 2002b) and Moraes (2012, 2016), as well as in studies that show how to distinguish the contrastive variation from the simple allophonic variation in the intonation of Brazilian Portuguese (PT-BR): Moraes, 1993, 1998, 2008, 2016; Moraes and Colamarco, 2007; Moraes et al., 2011, 2015. Furthermore, we investigate the interrogative melodic patterns of BP correlated with loud reading processing in a grammatical perspective. The loud reading of narrative texts are part of the 5 experiments carried in this investigation. The corpus is formed by 192 speech signals which correspond to the total of the loud reading audio files analyzed in this thesis. These readings were performed by the 24 elementary teachers who participated in the study as volunteers and plus 12 speech signals which refer to readings performed by the reader-control (the researcher herself). The recorded speech signals were phonetically/phonologically transcribed using Praat software. The results indicate that: (1) the teachers who volunteered in the production experiments did not always infer the intended propositional attitudes in the texts, making them prosodically utter different propositional patterns, which then caused a change in the interpretation of the uttered data; (2) in the perception experiments, they were more sensitive to neutral yes-no question and incredulous yes-no question and (3) the melodic configuration of the confirmation and request for confirmation proposed by Moraes (2008) proved to be atypical in the dialect of the investigated subjects. We ratify the phonological representation defined by Moraes (2008) in relation to the neutral yes-no and incredulous yes-no questions. The confirmation of the intonational behavior of the requests for confirmation and rhetoric yes-no questions will depend on further studies. In general, we verified that the observation of the configuration of the melodic contours can indicate if the manifestation of a given propositional meaning contributes or not to the interpretation intended in a given text.

This master's dissertation intends to analyze the work "A Pintura em pânico", published in 1943 by the writer and plastic artist Jorge de Lima from Alagoas, from a perspective of intersection of verbal and non-verbal languages, that is, in the ways in which the word is semiotified and it changes in contact with the image, and vice versa. Our intention with this work is to interpret the liminal poetic sign and its extraverbal reverberations. To this objetive, we depart from studies of Semiotics and Intersemiosis to guide our discussions. The research of Charles Sanders Peirce (2017), Décio Pignatari (1987 and 2004), Antonio Vicente Seraphim Pietroforte (2006, 2021), Roman Jakobson (1970) and Julio Plaza (2003), in particular, will be substantial to support our hypotheses.

The objective of this dissertation is to compare the works A poesia em pânico (1939), by Murilo Mendes and A pintura em pânico (1943), by Jorge de Lima, with emphasis on the melancholic traits present in each production. For this, theoretical studies on melancholy have been recovered, especially with regard to the feelings of loss and sadness, inherent in this condition, as Freud (2010) discusses. In this perspective, it was observed that - in both works - melancholy finds its genesis at the moment of rupture with the sacred, when lyrical subjects move away from religiosities. In the books mentioned, melancholic representation is perceived both in the thought of divine punishment and in verses/photomontages in which aspects of self depreciation are evidenced. In addition, it was found that, in A pintura em pânico, the addition of another semiotic system - the photomontage - engenders a new way of catalysing melancholic images, including because the Alagoan dialogues not only with Murilo Mendes, but with other works of art history. Therefore, the fragmented structure - intrinsic to the collage technique - already points to the presence of melancholy. Starobinski (2016) , Freud (2010), Quinet (2006) Costa Lima (2017), Eisenstein (2002) and Friedrich (1978) support the critical-analytical itinerary of this work.

This research aims to carry out an analysis of how the sacred is represented, more specifically, pantheism, in the work of Alberto Caeiro and Antonio Machado. The corpus consists of poems from the work O Guardador de Rebanhos, by Pessoa's heteronym, Alberto Caeiro, in addition to productions Soledades. Galerías. Otros Poemas. and Campos de Castilla, by Antonio Machado. The theoretical contribution is developed through Moisés (1998), Coelho (1977) and Moisés (2005) who help in the understanding of Caeiro's lyrics, while Gabor (1963), Izquierdo (2001), Jaeckel (2010) and Oubali (2014) contribute to the construction of the theoretical basis of Machado's poetics. Paz (1984) and Friedrich (1978) reflect on the characteristics of poetry in the modern context. Barbier (2009), Andrade (2010) and Espinosa (1983) help in understanding the concept of pantheism. In addition, a path is built through Carvalhal (2000), Borges (2000), Perrone-Moisés (1990), Coutinho (2014) and Nitrini (2000) that bring relevant reflections to Comparative Literature and demonstrate its importance in the analysis and criticism literary. There are similarities, but, above all, divergences, dialogues and transformations between the productions of Caeiro and Machado that present different ways of representing the sacred from the poetic text.

This work aims to contribute to the studies between society and language and focuses on the analysis of tweets written by women on contraception based on Systemic-Functional Linguistics (LSF) (HALLIDAY 1999; HALLIDAY & MATHISSIESSEN 2014. This theory conceives language as a semiotic potential in meeting the needs of the society in which it is used. The objective of the research is to verify marks of Evaluativity in the tweets in order to recognize the impacts of these marks in the construction of the message from the categories of the Subsystem of Attitude, such as of sociocultural behaviors and values (objects/beings). The specific theoretical framework on Evaluativity is based on the studies of Martin and White (2005), researchers who created and disseminated this theory from Halliday’s studies on LSF. The methodological cut was given by the collection of tweets in January 2021, in order to analyze how, after one year of the beginning of COVID-19, the impacts on the health and reproductive life of Brazilian women would manifest in the writings. It is proposed to study the opinions of women regarding contraception, since there is a great social responsibility about them about the use of contraceptives, even in pandemic times in which health difficulties were aggravated. As a result, it was observed that the Assessment was the category most used by the users, with 124 evaluative items, and the hypothesis that women have a more negative view regarding contraception and contraceptive methods was confirmed, by analyzing the linguistic resources chosen by them to publish the tweets.

The term communicative competence and subsequently intercultural communicative competence leads us to a broad vision of the concept of language that presents, despite the discrepancies between authors in relation to its dimensions, a fundamental importance of grammar, sociolinguistics and pragmatics for the propagation of a foreign language. It is indisputable that the dissemination of ELE teaching and learning in the current period has been overcoming geographic, political, cultural and social barriers that require, from the teacher, alterations and reconstructions in their techniques, strategies and teaching methods. Thus, this work arises from a study that intends to reflect on how and if intercultural communicative competence is present in the training of Spanish language teachers in Pernambuco, as well as providing and presenting a chronological study of the term and what way a student can be competent in a language. First, there is a brief historical overview about the teaching of Foreign Languages, the reflection of the basic documents for the teaching of Spanish, the explanation of the training of Spanish teachers in Pernambuco and the role of the university, based on the experience of our training as a student of the largest universities in the state. In the second chapter there is a timeline from the CC concept to the ICC competence. Thus, we start from Hymes' attributions, in the CC, analyzing all his theoretical development until we reach the CCI conceptualization. For the first concept, based on the contributions of Cenoz (2004), we analyzed Canale and Swain (1980), Canale (1983), Bachman (1990), Bachman and Palmer (1996), Celce-Murcia, Dornyei and Thurreu (1995) and the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR, 2002). For the second concept, based on the contributions of Teixeira (2013), first we will talk about the contributions of Michael Byram (1991), then we will move on to the attributions of Ting-Toomey and Kurogi (1998), Hamilton, Richardson and Shuford (1998) and , finally, Darla Deardorff's model (2006). In the third chapter, we have a pedagogical proposal with lesson plans, applied to teachers, based on the concepts presented and studied throughout the dissertation.

This research aims to investigate the refractions of Christian discourses, specifically Christian iconography, from the perspective of subaltern bodies, as well as the responsive discourses to such refractions. Thus, we will question the duel between dialogic word vs. authoritarian word. We are based on the dialogic analysis of discourse, in its concepts of alterity, dialogism, discourse, and utterance outlined by the Bakhtin Circle (1999; 2000; 2002) and Volochínov (2018), as well as tracing a dialogue between Foucault (1995; 1999; 2008; 2009; 2013) and Bakhtin (1997; 1999), based on the notions of body, power, utterance, and discourse. In this way, we have a theoretical framework divided into two volumes: Dialogic Analysis of Discourse (ADD) and concepts from Foucauldian thought. The discourse material selected for the construction of the analysis corpus split into two interpretive processes that align with the type of research being conducted: a) the utterances that refract Christian imagery by subaltern voices; b) the responsive acts to these refractions - in order to reach the qualitative approach that guided the analysis, guided by the concepts-categories already exposed. The corpus built, submitted to the analytical process, emerged from two discursive events: a) the performance of the crucified transvestite in the São Paulo LGBT parade in 2015; b) the parade of the Mangueira samba school in 2020, which themes the representation of Christian iconography under the gaze of subaltern voices. The responsive acts and replies to these discourses are described from the voices of representatives of the political and religious fields, such as General Luiz Eduardo Ramos, former President Jair Bolsonaro, former Minister Damares Alves and pastor and Federal Deputy Marcos Feliciano. Thus, we question the discursive struggles around the image of Christ, the legitimacy of voices resistant to the authoritarian word, and the meaning effects from these positions highlighted here.

This dissertation aims to analyze poems and fragments of two poets of antiquity: Sappho of Lesbos and Catullus. The analysis in question is of a comparative character and is guided in a cut in which the specific theme of erotic love is the guide of these comparisons. For this, at first we aim to investigate how Greek archaic poetry occurs (in its different subgenres and representatives, exemplifying with excerpts from fragments of Sappho) and how it may have influenced later moments in Western literature, more specifically in the literature of ancient Rome. Second, it is intended to investigate the paths of Latin poetry, from its formation, to the time of Catullus, exemplifying with excerpts from his own poems. For this, we have the theoretical support of Lesky (1966); Jaeger (2013); Levi (2008); and Ragusa (2005); (2013), to discuss initially about Greek literature and its civilization. In this sense, we also used the support of Cardoso (2011); Grimal (2009); Bickel (1982); Martins (2009); and Veyne (2015), to discuss Latin literature and its civilization. Thus, we could see through the analytical observation of literary texts and discussions around them, that both poets have several points of contact, but also differ in certain aspects in the treatment of the theme proposed for analysis.

The objective of this research was to observe how metafictional aspects existing in the novel Little Women [1868]/(2019), written by the American author Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888), were adapted for the film Little Women (2019), directed and scripted by Greta Gerwig (1983-). Concerning the theoretical contribution, we first discussed the concepts of metafiction, studied by Baldick (2001) and Bernardo (2010b), and analyzed how these definitions may be applied in the literature from the studies of Hutcheon (1980) and Waugh (2001). In the field of cinema, we analyzed how metafiction was observed through the works of Baláz (1983) and Xavier (2003). From the perspective of the Adaptation Studies, with Hutcheon (2011) and Stam (2005; 2006), we observed how the self-reflective and self-referential resource of metafiction is seen in the novel Little Women (2019) and with what intention those same elements were adapted in the movie Little Women (2019). This research also investigated the coming-of-age novel (Bildungsroman) based on the studies by Lukács (1994) and Noomé (2004), and what impact it had on Alcott’s literary work from the perspective of feminist critics such as Showalter (2020). With a film adaptation that highlights the feminist and progressive discourse existing in the literary work, we used the concept of femininity by Toril Moi (1989) and its relation with feminism, as well as the ideas related to women and literature by Woolf (2019). The corpus of analysis and interpretation of the research consists of selected excerpts from the novel and the film, pointing out where metafictionality is found in each of them, and why it was possibly used. We understand that the adaptation of Nineteenth-Century novels to films, as Gerwig’s Little Women, highlights the need to elaborate, adapt, and (re)interpret the narratives that bring current issues from contemporary society to be debated, such as misogyny, female oppression and sexism. It is, therefore, a study that seeks to highlight the relevance of Alcott’s work through Gerwig’s adaptation, joining, from metafiction, writer/character/director, as if they were all at the same time, place, and space.

The present study aims to analyze the variation of the second person possessive pronouns tu/tua/seu/sua and to investigate how agreement is established with the personal pronouns tu and você in the subject position. Our corpus consists of 153 personal letters written by couples from the 20th century, belonging to the computerized bank of texts of the Laboratory of Linguistic Documentation of Pernambuco (LEDOC). In analyzing the data, we considered both linguistic and socio-pragmatic aspects of this variation. To do so, we used the theoretical assumptions of Historical Sociolinguistics (CONDE SILVESTRE, 2007) and Variationist Sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972). We also adopted the assumptions of the Discursive Tradition (KABATEK, 2006) and theories that deal with the study of the relationships established in the interaction between letter writers, such as the theory of Power and solidarity (BROWN; GILMAN, 1960) and the Theory of Politeness (BROWN ; LEVINSON, 1987) for the discussion of the data. In the data analysis, the only controlled extralinguistic variable was gender. Regarding linguistic variables, we selected as analysis category the subject position, the classification of the letters, the filled and unfilled category of subject, the semantics of the possessed term, the position of the possessive in relation to the noun and the compositional structure of the Letter. As a result, in the 153 Pernambuco letters, we identified 314 occurrences of the analyzed phenomenon, which are distributed in 203 occurrences of yours and 111 of yours. It was also verified that there is agreement between the forms você-seu, tu-teu and that, from the 1990s onwards, the forms você-seu are almost unanimous in the corpus. From the control of the completed and unfilled category of subject, we identified that, already in the 90s, your still presents resistance when you are in the unfilled category of subject. Regarding the compositional structure of the letter, we identified that the possessive its together with the farewell section and the P.S. form a Discursive Tradition. With regard to the semantic control of the possessed term, the number and gender of the possessive in these variables were not relevant in the variation of possessives. Finally, the control for the variable position of the possessive in relation to the term possessed showed that, in Brazilian Portuguese, second-person possessives occupy the pre-nominal position.

The negative impact of spreading and adhering to fake news has dialogically interfered in democratic discussions and debates on fundamental issues for society. With a view to understanding the means of persuasion inserted in the elaboration of these, the present study has the general objective of demonstrating how some fundamental precepts and techniques of classical Aristotelian and Perelmanian rhetoric are observed and used in the production of fake news through the digital integration of enunciative modes in order to persuade the audience. The theme of the dissertation is “Multimodal Rhetoric in Fake News”, whose theoretical contribution, in relation to classical to digital rhetoric, has Aristotle ([350-335 BC] 2019), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca ([1958] 2005), Reboul (2004), Barthes (1975), Meyer (2007), Mateus (2018), Xavier (2013a) and Eyman (2015); regarding the digital mode, Xavier (2013b); about his multimodal production, Kress (2003), Kress and Leeuwen (2001, 2006), and digital, Tandoc, Lim and Ling (2018); to contextualize fake news with the digital sphere and its “filter bubbles”, Pariser, 2012; with political facts that occurred in 2016 and the post-truth phenomenon, D'Ancona (2018), Genesini (2018), Santaella (2018), Ferrari (2021). Methodologically, it is a qualitative research of an interpretative nature according to Prodanov and Freitas (2013), which basically resorted to the bibliographic technique for the conception of the study according to Lakatos and Marconi (2007). The Corpus comes from the journalistic article “10 fake news that were the most shared on the social network Facebook in the first round of the 2018 Brazilian presidential elections”, from which five were selected for analysis of the rhetorical elements defined by Aristotle ([350-335a.C.] 2019) - pathos, ethos, logos and enthymemes associated with the fake news elaboration methods “News Fabrication” and “Photo Manipulation” proposed by Tandoc, Lim and Ling (2018). So, the result of the analyzes corroborates our thesis that fake news is produced through multimodal arrangements that enable rhetorical techniques to persuade and guarantee agreement with the particular audience. Thus, this study achieves relevance by contributing to the understanding, in a significant part, of a complex and challenging research object.

Europe has a direct influence on world systems and established prior structures that cross the concept of race. This extract caused an ontological difference between Europe and marginalized civilizations in global power dynamics. Africa began to be explored by European peoples around the 15th century, when it already had a highly organized political, social, and cultural system. In this century, the process of sabotage against black people began. Myths about characteristics of the black body were reproduced, as well as alienation based on the repetition of repressive mechanisms, which caused the black person to lose confidence in themselves, in addition to the domination of the Catholic Church and pseudo-justifications given for the continuation of exploitation. In the history of Brazil, the figure of the black person is marginalized in terms of their place in the society where the events occur and in the history that is told. Marginalization is a term that consistently represents many positions directed towards black people in past and current times. This complex process is constituted by areas such as politics, society, and culture, being valid for this study mainly in relation to language and literature. Therefore, in this dissertation, we propose to analyze, based on the generative constituents of a literature that aims to be black, how the characteristics of the text written by the black writer Domingos Caldas Barbosa in the work Viola de Lereno (1760) reveal the existence of a literature that reaffirms its blackness, even in the eighteenth-century context, based on historical, linguistic, and psychological factors, as well as locating and contextualizing the relevance of the work and the author; explaining the reformulation of narratives about black literary productions in the 1700s-1800s, starting with the work Viola de Lereno, and elucidating values of history, memory, and black existence. To fulfill the purpose of this dissertation, several readings were carried out, resulting in a list of authors that will be used as points of support for the arguments constructed throughout the study, whether for agreement or refutation. The main authors highlighted include David Brookshaw (1983), Zilá Bernd (1994), Domício Pronça Filho (2004), Conceição Evaristo (2008), Kabengele Munanga (2020), and Frantz Fanon (2008). This dissertation finds its relevance when it is still necessary to shed light on literary history and productions by black people in certain periods; when, in addition to a literary-academic bias, the project serves society in the perspective of rehabilitation and strengthening, through the analysis of literary texts, of the values of history, memory, and black existence.

In the last two decades, the questions and reflections that emerged with the classroom as a background, especially, the questions about the approaches and methodologies of foreign language teaching (FLT), especially the English language (EL), have been contributing to the strengthening of research in Applied Linguistics (AL). In this regard, studies of teachers’ beliefs have emerged as possible answers to the questions that have been raised, especially regarding the teaching and learning of EL mediated by methodologies considered as new by current discourse. Thus, the present study, conducted in two public schools in the State of Pernambuco, in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, aims to investigate the beliefs of EL teachers regarding the presence of Active Teaching Methodologies in the process of EL acquisition at high school level of public schools. We are based on the concepts of Culture of Learning (languages) and Culture of Teaching (languages) with Erickson, 1986, 1987; Feiman-Nemser and Floden, 1986; Almeida Filho, 1993; Barcelos, 1995, 1999; Reynaldi, 1998); of teachers beliefs in Pajares, 1992; Barcelos, 1995, 2001, 2006, 2007) and active learning and active teaching methodology in Bonwell and Eison, 1991; Kane, 2004; Wandberg and Rohner, 2009); Berbel, 2011; Borges and Alencar, 2014; Valente; De Almeida and Geraldini, 2018. The research subjects are two EL teachers from two high schools (A and B). We adopted a qualitative-interpretative approach of descriptive character for data collection/generation and analysis, which, in the first stage, the participants had their classes observed and, in the second phase, he/she participated in a semi-structured individual interview. As instruments for data collection/generation were used: Observation of classes (O); Field Notes (FN) and Semi-Structured Individual Interviews (SI). Preliminary and embryonic analyses present the beliefs of the teacher-participant as divided into five categories: 1) Beliefs about the concept of active teaching methodologies (ATM); 2) Beliefs about applicability and the role of ATM in EL classes; 3) Beliefs about the participation of apprentices in EL classes mediated by the ATM; 4) Beliefs about BNCC and active teaching methodologies in EL classes; 5) Beliefs about the perception of students regarding the presence of ATM in EL classes.

This research proposes to analyze the ways of expressing suicide in the book The fall, written by the philosopher Albert Camus (1913-1960), pointing out ways in which these ways of saying are intertwined with the networks of symbolic constructions crossed by the theme. Points of (de)stabilization of these networks that cross the ways of saying suicide in the referred work and its effects of meaning on the understanding of this practice in the twentieth century and in the contemporary world were outlined. Camus (1913-1960) lived the post-war period and presents his philosophy by elaborating anguishes and dilemmas of his time through literary devices such as short stories and novels, being constituted as a relevant object of study both from a literary and philosophical point of view, provoking a great impact on the construction of 20th century thought (LINS, 2016). From the perspective of Michel Pêcheux (1997; 2008; 2012; 2019), this work seeks to understand the effects of meaning on the term suicide that are constructed in Camus' writing regarding the possible places of this notion in the set of the work. Starting from the relationship between literary discourse and the theoretical constructions of Lacanian psychoanalysis, the understanding of suicide as an act was discussed, tracing a reflection on the effects of the ways of saying suicide analyzed in Camus's work for a questioning-reformulation in the way of understanding - say suicide and its prevention in the National Policy for the Prevention of Self-Mutilation and Suicide. Questioning voluntary death within hegemonic productions of meaning opens space for a polysemic listening to this practice and, thus, to its care strategies. The work of Discourse Analysis (DA) stands out here as a theoretical-analytical device that enables reading gestures about discursive understandings in different orders and whose concreteness is produced through the various materialities produced from a political-ideological place. The DA was brought as a possibility of amplification of the symbolic work through the language making sense, forming notions of its context, of the conditions of discursive production and, consequently, of the historical positions previously assumed. This texture sustains a web of relationships between the linguistic materiality of the texts, the historical processes and the social practices that participate in their production conditions. For analysis, clippings of discursive sequences were outlined within the corpus which touch the construction of the notion of “suicide”. From this movement, it was possible to explore – taking into account different reading gestures and ways of saying about this notion – notes of meaning effects, composing suicide as a movement faceted by polysemic dimensions based on concepts such as enigma, punishment and resentment. Thus, movements of tension and rupture in the network of meanings were promoted, opening questions in front of this practice, placing it as pluralized and distant from a univocal conception of the phenomenon. Given the above, it was possible to build an opening for the understanding of voluntary death as an experience endowed with a semantic heterogeneity, which enables not only the expansion of possible conditioning factors and other possibilities of care, but the encounter with the dimension of acting as language.

This research discusses black-Brazilian women’s literature as an artistic-cultural resource that insurges against contemporary forms of subalternizations and silencing. Therefore, it aims to produce reflections on the importance of black women’s writing, reinforcing resistance scenarios in the stories of characters socially marked by colonialities. Taking as corpora of analysis tales from the book Insubmissive Women’s Tears, by Conceição Evaristo, we suggest that the Evaristian proposal is to deconstruct negative stereotypes by advocating the possibility of outcomes in which the protagonists become resilient. In this gesture, the author breaks with Eurocentric discourses, resignifying the history of subalternized women – because of identities determined by social categorizations of difference. At this juncture, by taking into account studies directly linked to the consequences of colonialities (of power, being, knowledge, and gender/race), through bibliographical research anchored in intersectional and decolonial theories, we defend counter-hegemonic arguments. To this end, we dialogue with ideas elucidated by: Angela Davis, Aníbal Quijano, bell hooks, Carla Akotirene, Gayatri Spivak, Grada Kilomba, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Lélia Gonzalez, María Lugones, Patricia Hill Collins, Sueli Carneiro etc. In sum, we observe that the assumptions of intersectionality and decoloniality have been engaged in producing new investigations based on the commitment to overcome power relations, inviting us to take critical positions since they recognize us with the marks caused by the various oppressive systems. Furthermore, we verify that Conceição Evaristo produces literary texts that go against canonical paradigms and, above all, understands black women’s writing as an act of insubordination. Thus, we consider that – in the narratives Natalina Soledad, Maria do Rosário Imaculada dos Santos, Isaltina Campo Belo, Mirtes Aparecida da Luz and Rose Dusreis – the intersectional aspects and the potentials of agency highlight both the social and the epistemic place of the characters.

Death in the arts, especially in literature, holds on an undeniable space, has being personified and symbolized across the various periods of time, peoples, and cultures. Received faces, body, expressions, and attributes that it has been constructed over the time and in to according with the contextual aspects of each period. Given this, this one investigation objectives to analyze this theme of representing death like woman in 19 turns of the century literature, specifically, in the poetry of Rubén Darío and Cruz e Sousa, at the lights of Thematology - a field of comparative literature that focuses on the study of themes and this one in literary works. To execute this analysis, particularly, we have focused on the transformations that about 18th and 19th centuries experienced in the influenced by Rationalist, Enlightenment and Positivism, just like the popular revolutions that permeated those years in order to assimilate the socio-historical context in which Romanticism emerged and, subsequently, neo-romanticism, commonly known as Symbolism. As a result, we will analyze and selected poems from the works of Rubén Darío, a Nicaraguan modernist poetry whom was influenced by of the prevailing symbolist aesthetic of this time in France, as like selected poems has chosen from Cruz e Sousa, Brazilian Symbolist and pre-modernist poetry in order to highlight where the aspects of death woman converge and diverge in Ibero-American Symbolist poem.

The objects of study of this master’s degree investigation are the Media Education Projects presented in two of the new high school textbooks, proposed for the area of Languages and their Technologies. As an objective, we seek to analyze, in the theoretical-methodological field of Applied Linguistics, the configuration of these Mediaeducation Projects within the scope of the PNLD-2021 and their relationship with the BNCC and with the so-called “literacy pedagogies” (Kalantziz, Cope and Pinheiro, 2020)), that is, ways/traditions/discourses of teaching certain literacy practices at school. With the enactment of the BNCC (2018) and the High School Reform (Law nº 13.415/2017), a new configuration of High School was inaugurated, based on the development of skills and competences and on the division between the curriculum represented by the BNCC and the diversified part (training itineraries). This change in this stage of basic education directly affects the elaboration of textbooks - now organized by areas of knowledge as prescribed in the Reform - and whose selection is based on the PNLD edict (2021), which prescribes that didactic works by areas (Educational Objects 1) present four integrative projects, among them the media education analyzed here. Based on the reflections of Silva (2018), Zank (2020), Coscarelli and Ribeiro (2021) and Fratine e Silva (2021), the research investigates two collections that presented two Projects with similar teaching objects: “Integramundo” and “Jovem Protagonista". This investigation is divided into two levels: didactic level – dialogue with project pedagogies and curriculum level – BNCC competencies and skills and literacy pedagogies. From the analysis, it is possible to verify that both projects present as positive points: the thematic treatment with the “short film” genre, the analysis of different language practices in diversified activities and the functional approach of the teaching objects. However, both are fragile when working with literary texts and with the critical approach.

ABSTRACT
This research, entitled Contributions to the teaching of E/FL: Foreignisms and Neologisms in the Lexicon of Current Spanish in the Light of Lexicography, of a descriptive nature and focused on a field today considered fundamentally theoretical, aims to discuss the concepts of Lexicology, Lexicography and Neologisms, and analyze slogans corresponding to four modern dictionaries of the Spanish language, highlighted, published in the last two decades, (SECO et al, 1999; MOLINER, 2007; ALVAR EZQUERRA, 1994; 2003). The methodological procedures of a practical nature establish a corpus with the lexemes that will be the object of our analysis from a collection in the aforementioned dictionaries. The work has as its starting point for its development a critical review of the most important works carried out and published up to the present and of those that may be published in the course of research related to the Spanish language and its teaching. The study shows the structuring of dictionaries and their types, their relevance for language teaching, and how societies and cultures are revealed through these works. It also seeks to reflect, discuss and understand how discourses are produced and conveyed through these dictionaries, in order to demonstrate that contemporary language contains a large number of lexical units arising from the lexical creativity of speakers, manifested in their orality. With this, the research intends to contribute to the development of dictionary studies and lead to reflections on Lexicography in E/FL teaching.

My goal is to read and analyze poems by Alberto da Cunha Melo, seeking to understand his view on poetry, the use of language, and the role of the poet in contemporary times. Initially, discussions revolve around modernism and postmodernism, and the effects of an increasingly contingent contemporaneity on literature and philosophy, arguing that literature can offer an alternative approach to the complex questions typically addressed by traditional philosophy. It is assumed that Alberto's poems form a metaphorical unity that gains strength due to a certain formal typicality and thematic articulation, allowing for reflections on his production, the nature of the poem itself, and the metaphor at hand, which demonstrates an ingenious use of words. Therefore, it is necessary to consider metaphor not only as a figure of speech but as a process of constructing knowledge and engaging in investigative and reflective action. To support this notion of metaphor, discussions by Ernesto Grassi (1993; 1978; 2001), Maria Zambrano (2000; 2007), Ortega y Gasset (1964; 1996; 1968; 1989), and Richard Rorty (1995; 2000) are reflected upon, as well as contributions from critics and thinkers such as Paul Ricoeur (2005) and Umberto Eco (2004), who have addressed the issue of metaphor and interpretation. Through the analysis of selected poems from "Poemas à mão livre" (1981), "Oração pelo poema" (1969), and "Yacala" (1999), it is possible to demonstrate how Alberto da Cunha Melo's poetry was self-aware and conscious of its thematic depth, presenting a potential that was ingeniously and astutely explored by the poet, even though he primarily focused on the form of the poem.

This work aims to compare the use of connectives in classified ads from different periods of the Pernambuco press, identifying changes in the use of these connectors as markers of textual relations and analyzing their function within the selected classified ads. Such interest arose from the desire to understand how the use of connection has manifested itself over the years in texts of wide social circulation, which take into account the communicative needs of their users. We start from the concepts of cohesion brought by Antunes (2005), Koch (2016), Cavalcante (2016) and Garantizado Júnior (2020) and the concept of Discursive Tradition present in Coseriu (1981), Schlieben-Lange (1983; 1993), Koch (1997; 2008; 2021), Öesterreicher (1997) and Kabatek (2006). During the comparison, 50 (fifty) classified ads from the newspaper Diario de Pernambuco from five different periods (1825-1845, 1875- 1895, 1925-1945, 1975-1996 and 2021) were selected. After the analyzes and comparisons, it was identified that the use of conjunctions “and” and “for” appear more frequently, being present in all analyzed periods. Furthermore, the explicit use of these cohesive elements was more productive in the fourth and second period (1975-1996 and 1875-1895), and the year in which, due to the simplification of the genre and the new modalities of writing due to technology, the use of connectives was lower, it was in the last one (2021). Therefore at first, it is understood that the use of cohesive resources follows the structure and purpose of the genre in each period, as well as the social context in which it is being used, with the purpose of connecting the information present in the text.

The objective of this work is to contribute to the studies of Contemporary Brazilian Literature, especially with regard to the connections between identity, memory and eroticism in the novel Barba ensopada de sangue, by Daniel Galera (2012). With just over a decade of release, the novel revolves around the trajectory of a teacher who has prosopagnosia, a disease that prevents him from memorizing and recognizing faces, including his own. After his father’s suicide, the character travels to Garopaba, a town on the coast of Santa Catarina, in search of his grandfather’s story and, during her journey, discovers more about his own identity through interactions with the town’s residents, his friends and family, in a narrative that involves past, present and future. The research is based on a contemporary view of the concepts of identity, memory and eroticism. Thus, fundamental theorists such as Zygmunt Bauman, with his perspective of a liquid modernity that crosses our subjectivities; Maurice Halbwachs, with the dynamism of individual and collective memory and its influence on the construction and recovery of memories; and Georges Bataille, with his vision of eroticism as a torn language, marked by the fusion with death. In the liquid world, nothing was made to last, including identities, recognized as fluid and active participants in community life, making it impossible to maintain just one identity throughout life. Therefore, the character’s identity path is the focus of this research, in order to amplify our view on the construction and fragmentation of identities in contemporary literature and, consequently, in the liquid world.

The research aims to demonstrate that in "Glória" (2012), a novel by Victor Heringer, there is a dual procedure through which we recognize the possibility of apprehending a characteristic malaise of contemporaneity, while it expresses this not only thematically, but especially through formal literary elements. According to Joel Birman (2014), we can characterize the current malaise as a feeling of emptiness of existence, which in the novel takes shape in what the narrator refers to as "desgosto" (disgust). This malaise is presented in the novel through the formal articulation of a hero marked by tragedy, whose plot action engages with the tradition of comedy. "Glória" narrates the trajectory of the Alencar Costa and Oliveira siblings - comprised of Benjamim, a frustrated artist; Daniel, a successful bureaucrat; and Abel, a rising pastor - a family whose members are fated to die not from accidents or illness, but from "desgosto," an acute and unpredictable melancholy that haunts them from generation to generation. Thus, as a result, it becomes evident that it is through the resizing of the hero, whose world is no longer their measure (LUKACS, 2012), and crossed by inventive irony, that Heringer organizes "desgosto" as a structuring trait of his heroes. With this, he not only problematizes the supposed panaceas that gave horizon to the subject, but also brings into his fold a reflection on the language of the novel as a literary genre. Finally, we observe how Heringer's irony serves as the author's response to one of the main theoretical questions of literature that crossed the critical debate of the 20th century: the crisis of representability. Heringer incorporates this crisis into his mode of expression through formal heresy to fictionally reflect on his time and, above all, the artistic creation of his time.

This dissertation, which has as its central theme the intention to unveil the reason why there is a gap between sports practice - more specifically football - and literature, through the work Desporto-Rei (1955), by Romeu Correia. The theoretical contribution was developed from Balsemão (2008), Castanheira (2009) and Condeixa (2017) for a characterization of the writer Romeu Correia; to understand the separation between sport and the arts, as well as to understand the path of a possible approach of literature with themes not coming from high society, we resort to Bourdieu (1983), Nietzsche (2009), Vanoyeke (2004), Elias and Dunning (1992) Rancière (2009) and Schaeffer (2013); to reflect on the characteristics that give football a possible visibility as art and literary matter dialoguing with the very historical evolution of sport, we turn to Cornelsen (2006), Nascimento (2014), Filho (2010), Wisnik (2008), Serrado (2009), Kumar (2014) among others. In addition, a path is built based on Compagnon (1999), Candido (2000) that fosters the possibility of achieving meanings subsequent to the initials of a literary work in dialogue with society and the reader. With the reflections built from the mentioned theorists, we conclude that the literature, by making room for football, demonstrates how both can be confronted as manifestations that suffer mutations, inserting them in a "new place" that should not be seen as inferior to what they occupied in the past.

This work analyzed the three children's plays by the Pernambuco playwright Luiz Marinho, Foi um Dia, As Aventuras do Capitão Flúor, no Reinado do Dente Cariado and A Família Ratoplan, written between the seventies and eighties, a period marked by a literary and theatrical production for more playful, creative, diversified children with daring themes and less moralizing and pedagogical. To carry out this study, initially, the various possible ways of conceptualizing children's literature and the difficulties encountered by those who work with this genre are known, which are directly available to the subalternity of the implicit reader, the child. Finally, always trying to observe the child's closest point of view, in the sense of making use of and understanding the work directed at him, this research revealed in Marinho's texts the innovations and concomitant trends for him, concluding that the playwright is part of the group of authors of the so-called contemporary phase of Brazilian children's literature.

In this paper, we will present an analysis of Seneca the Elder's Excerpt from Controversy 6.8, identifying the rhetorical, historical, and political figures presented in each of the parts that make up such a fictitious legal discourse. Therefore, our work was structured as follows: in the first chapter, we deal with the history and structure of the genre of controversies, in order to contextualize ourselves as to the corpus we select; in the second, we tapered our gaze, properly, to the excerpt of controversy 6.8, so that we could, before performing a more in-depth analysis, know and present the text, in general terms, from the linguistic and rhetorical points of view. Next, we opened a subchapter to perform an analysis of the excerpt of controversy 6.8 in the light of Aristotle's Rhetoric; in the third, we dedicate ourselves to a historical contextualization about the Vestal Virgins, punctuating the most fundamental details for the research, regarding the representation of the goddess Vesta and the rights and duties that concerned her priesthood; in the fourth, we present the figure of Lucrezia, whose figuration in the discourse of the prosecution is quite important so that the accusatory party can achieve its intentions. In addition, we intend to insert, in the same chapter, a historiographical basis about Cato, another prominent personality of Roman society, whose appearance is on the part of the defense, so that the countenance of his presence can counter the argument that speaks of Lucrezia. Finally, in the fifth and final chapter, we will make a general and more in-depth analysis of the excerpt of controversy 6.8 of Seneca the Elder.

This research aimed to analyze the work Contos Negreiros (2005), by the Brazilian writer Marcelino Freire, under the approach of Subaltern Studies and Queer Theory. The proposal was to connect characters from the work to marginalized social groups, in order to demonstrate how subaltern communities can speak through Freire's literature. Following this direction, this research sought to collaborate with studies on subalternity in literature, proposing hypotheses about the speech of excluded communities and perceiving their power of representation. Initially, we used works from the field of Subaltern and Queer Studies, highlighting Gramsci (2002) and Spivak (2010) and their concepts of hegemony and subalternity. For Spivak (2010), the subordinate has silence as an inherent condition, as there are a series of barriers against him that prevent him from speaking and being heard. In addition, we brought the issue around Queer Theory, where we highlighted the relevance of works by Gloria Anzaldúa (1987) and Guacira Lopes Louro (1997). The latter explains that the concept of queer serves to define a way of challenging the norms that regulate society. In this sense, seeking to recognize some heterogeneous voices of subaltern subjects in Contos negreiros (2005), we relied on the theoretical contribution of studies about the literary character, where the contributions of Antonio Candido (2010) and Beth Brait (1985) were important to us. Thus, we paid attention to the characters that inhabit Freire's work, since they are responsible for rescuing the voices of the peripheries of Brazil. Among those are homosexuals, illiterates, thieves, prostitutes, abused children, exploited Indians and black people. In addition to those problems, sex tourism and organ and human trafficking still emerge. We selected five stories from this work for analysis, namely Trabalhadores do Brasil, Solar dos Príncipes, Vaniclélia, Totonha and Coração. Our proposal was to discuss them from the presented concepts, in an attempt to verify how Freire's characters corroborate with the decolonial struggle, since we believe that those tales are capable of making the reader observe Freire's narratives through the bias of those who they could never tell. Going in this direction, we can say that the creation of subaltern and queer characters in contemporary Brazilian literature can serve as a positive reinforcement in the battle against the subalternization of peripheral subjects

The present study had as general objective to analyze the representations of themes related to contemporary South Korean literature in the novel The Vegetarian (2007), by the author Han Kang, through the intermedia references woven throughout the three chapters that make up the work. Published in 2007 in South Korea, the book received the International Booker Prize in 2016 (9 years later), gaining attention due to Deborah Smith's translation into English. Amid the controversies over the edition not being faithful to the Korean author's writing, it is undeniable that this recognition raised Han Kang and The Vegetarian to a global apogee, causing the novel to be read and studied worldwide. Thus, in the West, despite being a contemporary novel, critical fortune already shows itself in a voluptuous development. Therefore, we believe that it is necessary to analyze the historical context to which the work and its author belong, and, for this, we use the field of study of intermediality to propose a reading exercise to the work The Vegetarian. Starting from a crossover of perspectives: diachronic, from the proposal of Müller (2012); and synchronic, based on the studies of Claus Clüver (1997; 2006; 2012) and Irina Rajewsky (2012a; 2012b); in addition to the interdisciplinary study outlined by Lars Elleström (2021). We also trace a path of reading intermediality both as a phenomenon that presents a complex historical network and as a category of analysis. In the mid-1960s, South Korea experienced dizzying changes in its historical, political, social, and economic fabrics, which reverberated in artistic production — especially in contemporary South Korean literature. Thus, we discuss from the study of Lee (2007), on the cultural hybridity in contemporary South Korean literature, and the use of the concept of "hybrid writing" – referring to the mixtures of literary texts with new cultural texts that were accessed by the authors within this new globalized era, the phenomenon of the Korean Wave — and the society of mass consumption, which induced the authors to think about themes such as the mutations of themes related to femininity, sexuality and violence produced by a post-industrial world. To build a more solid theoretical apparatus in relation to this historical and cultural path of contemporary South Korean literature, we rely on the studies of Cho, 2000; Yi et al., 2001; Kim, 2002; Lee, 2003; Elfving-Hwang; (2010); Kwon; Fulton, 2020. Therefore, from these considerations, we see that Han Kang discusses both issues that encompass the theme of femininity (the domestic environment, female sexuality, and motherhood), as well as discusses the consequences that human beings must sustain due to the advances of post-industrialization. Thus, we argue that these themes can be triggered in Han Kang's text from the intermedia references present in the novel. Therefore, we consider this novel a happy example of an amalgam of what contemporary South Korean literature has to offer the reader, and The Vegetarian, the quintessence of Han Kang's aesthetic project.

Literatura reflects its time, so that social values are perpetuated from literary works, which teach their readership how they should behave socially and the consequences of escaping the established norms. In this way, Machado de Assis beacame a landmark with his subtle writing that denounced the hypocrisy of human relations in na almost imperceptible way, creating iconic characters such as Capitolina de Pádua, which was recreated and resignified in several versions. Thus, in this worj, we seek to understand the similarities and diferences in this construction os Capitu by Dom Casmurro and Capity by Adísia Sá, whose work Capitu tell Capitu, rewrites the character from the female point of view, certifying a voice to this character who was silenced by the narrator Bento Santiago. In this way, the research was divided into three parts: in the first, the representation of women and female authorship is analyzed from the studies of Wolf (1928), Beauvoir (1970) and Butler (2013). In the second chapter, the construction of Machado’s female characters and the work Dom Casmurro were studied through the studies of the studies of Brandão (2006). In the third chapter, the construction of Capitu in the work of Adísia Sá is identified, with the purpose of verifying the particularities of the character in the face of Machado’s character and the importance of its resignification in national Literature.

This work aims to analyze the behavior of /S/ in syllabic coda in the speech of bilingual indigenous people of Latundê as L1 and Portuguese as L2, who inhabit the Indigenous Terra Tubarão-Latundê, located in the State of Rondônia. This research is based on the assumptions of Linguistic Contact and Bilingualism (THOMASON, 2001; ROMAINE, 1995; WEINREICH,1953; MATRAS, 2010; HICKEY, 2010, among others), verifying the phenomenon of phonological transfer from one language to another. The choice of theme resulted from the hypothesis that the non-existence of sibilant phonemes in syllabic life in Latundê would interfere with the production of the coda /S/ in Portuguese as a second language. In the analysis, we observed that the behavior of this coda in the available data, considering linguistic and social conditions. The corpus was constituted from recordings made between 1995 and 2016. The analysis was of a qualitative nature, and the phonetic data were submitted to the Praat software, to confirm the hearing perception. As a result of our analysis, in view of the behavior of the sibilant fricative coda, the following phenomena were attested: deletion of /S/ in a syllabic coda, with more frequent occurrence, followed by the realization of the voiceless alveolar fricative [s]. In addition to these phenomena, the realization of voiced alveolar [z], voiceless palatal [ʃ], voiced palate [Ʒ], voiceless glottal [h] and voiced glottal [ɦ] occurred, in addition to these phenomena. rare sounds in the corpus. The phenomena analyzed were confronted with sociolinguistic studies on the phenomenon in portuguese as L1, in order to compare relevant restrictions and assess the role of Latundê interference in indigenous portuguese. In view of the research findings, we consider that the interference is responsible for the deletion of /S/; that the production of the coda as a voiceless alveolar fricative segment [s], alongside its voiced and palatal counterparts, as well as voiced and voiceless florals, although coinciding in some respects, does not largely obey the constraints observed in Portuguese L1. Such behavior also confirms the occurrence of interference of the L1 in the L2, resulting from the linguistic contact experienced by the Latundê people.

The aim of this research is to analyze the writing of bilingual deaf people in the LIBRASPortuguese interlanguage, through a social cognitive discursive perspective of Text Linguistics. The notion of Referential Networks was used in the analysis, which is presented as an evolution of referencing studies, through which is observed referents being activated and progress in a text both through linguistic relations and through extralinguistic relations. The theoretical basis that guides this research was found in the works of Cavalcante (2021), Custódio Filho (2011) and Matos (2018), in terms of the elaboration of the concept of referencing and of the social cognitive processes that act on the construction of referents, culminating in Referential Networks. For the construction of notions of the LIBRAS-Portuguese interlanguage and its characteristics, support was sought in the works of Brochado (2003) and Muniz (2008). The corpus of this research is consisted of seven texts written by deaf bilingual adults, in which it was analyzed the most common referencing strategies in these interlanguages, delimiting the social cognitive stages of construction and progression of referents and also considering the importance of referential, central, and anaphoric networks, for the construction of meaning.

This work aims to describe modal marks, specifically the notions of possibility and necessity in which deaf signers of Libras perform and the situational contexts in which they present themselves. In this way, we use a theoretical foundation that has as its framework the modality within the semantics of possible worlds, Kratzer's main theory (1981, 1991, 2008 and 2010). We start with the guiding question: how is the phenomenon of modality encoded in Brazilian Sign Language – Libras considering the production conditions and the particularities of this visual-spatial modality language? To this end, we used the contextualized elicitation methodology described by Matthewson (2004) and Sanchez-Mendes (2014). The research corpus included bilingual deaf people belonging to the academic community of the Federal University of Pernambuco, with 6 participants including teachers and students. We present 6 questions with situational contexts aiming to obtain results using possibility and necessity modals that were recorded and described through glosses. As a result, we observed that, just like oral languages, Libras has its modal strength marked by the lexicon. ‘POSSIBLE’ and ‘NEED’ present themselves as the signs used by the deaf that encode possible worlds in a variable way into epistemic and circumstantial/root. As we were able to observe in the findings the duplication of hands and non-manual marks seem to be an important factor for the modal basis of Libras. Circumstantial necessity modals double the number of hands to get closer to universal possible worlds.

This dissertation aims, through comparative study and theoretical/bibliographical research, to analyze contemporary short stories by Brazilian authors and discuss the representations of existential anguish based on certain discussions about contemporary times. Initially, we sought to elucidate the concept of existential anguish in the face of problematizations reflected in the tradition of existential philosophy, represented by Søren Kierkegaard, Martin Heidegger, and Jean-Paul Sartre, since this field is seen recurrently as a reference on the subject. Thus, through this delimitation, relationships that philosophers establish between the phenomenon and subthemes that accompany it will be exposed, such as possibility, authenticity, and freedom. Therefore, guided by the perception that literature (as well as philosophy, but in the area of representation, but not limited to an illustrative function of concepts) also enables a role of deep and essential reflection about anguish, we reflect on the phenomenon and its relationships in the face of three short stories published in the first two decades of the 21st century: Sabedoria das Águas by Daniel Munduruku, Dramaturga Hermética by Natália Polesso, and Beijo na face by Conceição Evaristo. It should be noted, therefore, that the research in the analysis does not point out many examples because the choice for few short stories was done to guarantee what we aim to highlight: the approach to the theme in the short stories, in addition to a simple form of exemplification in the metaphorical area, which they also point to it as something inherent to existence and the human condition. As a result, we intend to point out that literature, and its particularities in the representative area, can help in discussions and understanding about existential anguish in contemporary times, enabling the reader, if they wish, to open paths for confrontations and resignifications in the face of the phenomenon.

This study aims to analyze the narrative of "A Color Defect,” by the writer Ana Maria Gonçalves. Set in the early 19th century, the narrative covers the life story of Kehinde, a black woman born in Savalu, Africa, who is captured and brought to Brazil to be enslaved as a child. Throughout her life, Kehinde faces many challenges due to the need to live in a slave-owning society, under the effects of coloniality of power (QUIJANO, 2005), gender (LUGONES, 2014), and many other forms of violence. During her education, Kehinde has the opportunity to learn her first letters and has contact with literature. This meeting turns out to be transformative for her life because, through many literary readings, she acquires a level of intellectuality that makes her face life differently and gives her the strength to overcome the sufferings she went through. We propose a reading of "A Color Defect" from the perspective of a female education novel (PINTO, 1990), as the narrative presents us with the entire formative process of the character Kehinde in various dimensions: intellectual, personal, cultural, and financial (MIRANDA, 2019). In this sense, the influence of African and Brazilian culture is shown to be in constant interaction, contributing to its constant cultural conflict. Such conflicts influence the way Kehinde exercises her motherhood, also permeated by her experiences and pain as a black mother in the diaspora, acting in the constant opposition between Africa and Brazil (SILVA, 2019). We recognize in Kehinde the voice of a historical counter-narrative (CALADO, 2018), for her role in narrating her experiences (GINZBURG, 2012), for her intellectuality acquired through literature (CANDIDO, 1972), and her resistance movements, which show new possibilities of self-presentation of black women in Brazilian literature (EVARISTO, 2005). With that, Kehinde configures herself as a black mother who has a lot to teach, narrate, tell, and literarily nourish all her reading children.

The present work has the purpose of scrutinizing the narrative of Juan Carlos Onetti, in particular the so-called cycle of Santa María. Initially, we intended to make a theoretical approach, drawing especially from ideas related to the baroque and the classic, to analyze the set of texts from Santa María. The main purpose was to better understand, from the classical-baroque dyad, some central characteristics of the author's writing, namely: intertextuality – or the self-referentiality that, being so intense, borders on a proposal of a total literary work –, metalanguage – as we talk about a literature that analyzes literary creation as it creates itself – and the obsessive fictional rewriting about simulacrums, dualities and hoaxes; something that was once called the imposture game. This initiative is present in the study, however the plurivocity of potential interpretations of the author's writings and the narrative complexity that came to the surface made us embark on a much more essayistic journey with the aims of getting closer to such a particular literary proposal. Onetti is a writer who dedicated his life – more than 60 years of it, at least – to writing fiction about the precariousness of our discourses, characters, stories, and narratives; and he did so by creating speeches, characters, stories and narratives that were just as precarious, but with a clear awareness of their condition. It is a narrative that intends to be total, but elaborated on the faults, absences, misunderstandings, and flaws. Throughout this work, therefore, we sought a myriad of parallels that would allow us some understanding of a literary construction that, on the one hand, brings modernity and the avant-garde to Spanish-American literature and, on the other, tries to undermine the surface of the abstruse (and absurd) condition that some call existence. To this end, we dedicated a long time to analyzing the writer's texts in the light of the literature of the late 19th century (using authors such as Tolstoy, Conrad and Henry James), of the literary vanguards of the early 20th century (with an obvious emphasis on Faulkner), of the rio-platense literature of the period (with all attention to Arlt and Borges) and even of the contemporary literature. The result achieved was a sort of long literary essay on Onetti's narrative.

The genesis of the novel genre, for historians of Portuguese literature, such as Maussaud Moisés (2012), Saraiva e Lopes (1975) and Fidelino Figueiredo (1960), is exclusively linked to the Middle Ages. Following the same logic, several narratological studies written in Brazil and Portugal attribute to the cavalry novel the role of inaugurating, in universal literature, the novelistic form. However, research carried out in England, Spain, France and Germany, for example, since the 1960s, already pointed to the origins of formal elements and the novel itself since Classical Antiquity. According to Katherine Gittes (1991), Greeks and Romans, from the classical period, exerted influences on medieval European literature, since the frame-narrative, basic to the novel genre, emerges from two literary traditions: one western, through the Greek novel and classical Roman; and an oriental one, based on Indian religious texts. Since its inception, the novel has been presented as a more popular form and which, in turn, because it is not so tied to canonical rigor, like other literary forms, has greater formal malleability and could become and adapt over the years. In this sense, when analyzing the chivalry novel and its long stay in Portugal, we observe that it suffers some alterations in its composition throughout the 16th century, presenting new themes, cycles and modes of construction of the narration (greater psychological depth of the characters; incursions into lyrical discourses in the midst of prose; mixing between verse and prose; exaltation of the Portuguese people, through characters representative of their inherent heroic character; among other things) not explored in the Middle Ages. Howsoever, these transformations of this subgenre of the novel are not observed only during the 16th century, since the twelfth century, when it appears in the West, the chivalric novel does not emerge as a necessarily finished form, as it emerges with a writing in verse, Roman undergoes a process of prosification from the 13th century onwards, in which this subgenre not only becomes prose, but also inherits some compositional aspects of medieval historiography, such as the insertion of a fictional author in the narrative, the summary by chapter and the concern with detailing the events narrated in the text. Thus, the constitution of the form of the chivalry novel is a non-stant process, considering that the novel genre itself has formal malleability since the first texts created that were inserted in this type of literary tradition. This research aims to present the formal reconfigurations and paths of the medieval Lusitanian novel of the 16th century, based on chivalry novel such as: Crônica do Imperador Clarimundo donde os Reis de Portugal descendem (1522), by João de Barros; Palmeirim de Inglaterra (1541-1543), by Francisco de Moraes; O Memorial das Proezas da Segunda Távola Redonda (1554), by Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcellos; e Terceira [e quarta] parte da Chronica de Palmeirim de Inglaterra na qual se tratam as grandes cavallerias del seu filho o príncipe Don Duardos Segundo (1582), by Diogo Fernández. However, before approaching its transformations, we undertook: 1) to insert the chivalric novel into a novelistic tradition initiated in Classical Antiquity; 2) to demonstrate how other types of novels have in themselves some compositional aspects that will continue to be present in knightly narratives between 1522 and 1582; 3) define the cavalry novel as a subgenre, that is, a branch of a broader genre, the novel, establishing what is fundamental in its structure, considering that, among brazilian literary critics, only Massaud Moisés (2012; 2013) undertook a systematic study of its composition; 4) understand how medieval novelistics was formally established and that formal legacies of the subgenre come exclusively from the medieval period. From the discussion and analysis of these assumptions, we will seek to present how and through which narrative mechanisms the chivalry novel of the 16th century presented here are reconfigured.

America is surrounded by different visions of colonial alterity in relation to the History and Memory of the continent, therefore, the investigation of these aspects from the internal perspective helps to break with the paradigms imposed by the spirit of coloniality present in the region, proposing the understanding of the American identity and the breaking of the European imaginary impregnated in the expressions of culture, politics, and social organization. Knowing the constitution of our own History allows us to see the hidden spaces and the narratives not told by the colonizer. Therefore, the present work has as main objectives: to understand the role of Andrés Cassard,s publications for the diffusion of Freemasonry in Cuba; to assist in understanding the vision of Freemasonry projected by Cassard; to promote the debate on the vision of nationalism defended by Cassard in his articles in the periodical El Espejo Masónico (1866-1867). For this purpose, an analysis was carried out of fourteen articles written by Andrés Cassard in the periodical El Espejo Masónico (1866-1867), published in a facsimile version by Ediciones Extramuros in 2007, reproducing the originals available at the Library of the University of Cádiz. As theoretical bases, we rely on the contributions of Cultural, Post-Cultural and Decolonial Studies. We could perceive, through the literary productions of Andrés Cassard, the defense for the formation of a Cuban national community based on the principles of Freemasonry, linked to a conservative liberal political bias, thus revealing the multifaceted configuration of Cuban nationalism and its consequences in the press at the end of the 19th century.

This research is dedicated to developing three analytical categories — espaços-ventres, ventres-psiques and psiques-gestacionais, based on afro-referenced principles. It also sought to further elaborate the oroboro-mnemônico concept thought of in the master’s program. This thesis was structured upon concepts derived from black diaspora, literature, psychoanalysis and experiences lived in candomblé yards. It was also aimed throughout the writing to create “ebós e epistemológicos”, with the intent of casting out the “carrego colonial,” thinking of counter speeches. Along the elaborations of espaços-ventres, ventres-psiques and psiques-gestacionais, contemporary black women’s poems were prioritized, such as Mel Adún, Lívia Natalia, Lubi Prates, Vânia Melo, Neide Almeida, Conceição Evaristo, Rayane Leão, Elizandra Souza, Louise Queiroz, because it is believed that such poems can perform a theoretical-lyrical function. The investigations and applications of the epistemologies also had as a foundation the novel Ponciá Vivêncio, by Conceição Evaristo: published in 2003, and the short novel “Sabela”, published in 2016, which is within the book Histórias de leves enganos e parecenças. We pursued to discuss aesthetic, ideological, cultural and psychic aspects in these works, having as a basis the african and afro descendant ancestral becoming. To this end, authors like Leda Maria Martins, Bell Hooks, Grada Kilomba, Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyewùmí, Patricia Hill Collins, Denise Botelho, Carla Akotirene, Adilbênia Machado, Reimey Solange, Cristian Sales, Isildinha Nogueira, Eduardo Oliveira, Muniz Sodré, Roland Walter, Davi Nunes, Luiz Antônio Simas and Luiz Rufino were called to the “ginga”. The entire thesis is based upon elaborations coming from the concept of the Nigerian Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyewùmí – in which Oxum is the primordial iyá. Thus, the epistemological constructions were created considering Oxum’s womb and the iyá ancestors as ventres-psiques, capable of providing escape routes, of enchantment for possible cures for the trauma, and, consequently, of the “banzo”. Therefore, it is believed that black women, in the/of the/on diaspora, while writing, produce within the espaços-ventres and when they access the ventres-psiques, through their psiques-gestacionais, they chart ancestral technologies through the black becoming, hence constructing águas-grafias as modus operandi for litera-curas.

The touchy interaction between fictional narrative and historiographical narrative still constitutes a recurring theme in the round table among theorists. By establishing themselves as writings that investigate man in each social context, many scholars, literary critics, historians, and philosophers could not resist the provocation of examining them, making, therefore, a kind of comparison in order to identify and distinguish their peculiarities. Effectively, according to the investigations of Luiz Costa Lima (2006), although the historical and literary discourses present certain affinities, for example, overcoming the intolerable son of time, oblivion (lethe), the two narratives are irreconcilable in terms of pretension: the history is concerned with the objective reporting of facts; literature with the aesthetic elaboration of these facts in accented words. Therefore, in terms of results, it could be said that history gathers facts, with the purpose of verifying them, from the meticulous examination of documents, while literature reconfigures the representation of the world, through the reformulation of reality (LIMA, 2006, p. 291). However, the boundaries between the territories of fiction and fact become hazy by the initiative of the historical novel. According to the theoretical perspectives of Marina Acero (2006), during Romanticism, historiography and novel were involved in a kind of conflicting contact, since they turned to the analysis of human behavior and social customs – nevertheless, the novel seemed to act as a more effective textual resource as knowing about human condition in different moments of past and present. It’s precisely in this suggestive connection between fictional writing and the historical report, between linguistically constructed reality and daily live reality, that the historical novel, entitled Confesiones de la monja alférez: la verdadera historia de Catalina de Erauso (2005) by the Chilean writer, Juanita Gallardo, is found, since, in its preface, there is a warning about a constant game between reality and fiction. Regarding the mentioned historical novel, there is a manifest intertextuality with the autobiographical text, entitled Historia de la Monja Alférez, Catalina de Erauso, escrita por ella misma (2018), which is inserted in the narrative through quotations in strategic positions, contributing with the verisimilitude of the novel that intends to be the true version of the Catalina de Erauso’s life. As a consequence, realizing the multiple perspective related to autobiographical narrative, as it presents an indetermination not only in terms of history and literature, but also manifests oscillations in terms of travel chronicles, picaresque novels and service memorials; it’s appropriate to observe how the narrative disposition of a life introduces possibilities and a respective reordering of that life, in the sense of collaborating with the idea of enactment as a factor of plasticity of human beings (ISER, 2013). Finally, contemplating the interaction between reality and fiction in the existential plot of a novice-soldier, belonging to the seventeenth century, the objective is to identify the interlacement (history-fiction) available, not only in the autobiographical account, but also in the novelized version of this, by the purpose of investigating if life can be configured in fabulous matter. The theories of Pozuelo (1993), Philippe Lejeune (2014), Bakhtin (2018), Calligaris (1998), Maravall (2009), Silva (1999) and Hatzfeld (1988) have been used to support discussions about Baroque culture, autobiographical genre characteristics, and historical novel structure. In addition, the present work also discusses the trajectory of historical women who, like Catalina de Erauso, were skilled with the pen and weapons in different historical contexts.

This paper observed, through the historical-contrastive perspective, the semantic motivations behind the meaning mismatch of Portuguese/Spanish false cognates. To do so, it based its reflections on scientific theories that justify the importance of the analysis of this event from a diachronic perspective, considering that the studies that exist to date have only been developed under the synchronic aegis. The entries chosen for the analysis of the Portuguese language were taken from MACHADO, José Pedro. Dicionário etimológico da língua portuguesa. Lisbon: Livros Horizonte. 1995; the Spanish, from COROMINAS, Joan & PASCUAL, José A, Dicionário crítico etimológico castellano e hispánico. Madrid: Gredos. 1980. Thus, through this investigative line, he proposes a method that can serve both teachers and students who want to unravel the imbroglio of why homonyms and paronyms from the same linguistic trunk manifest particular meanings in a given period of time.

In this thesis, a study is carried out on the theme of the divine in the works of Lenilde Freitas and Hilda Hilst in three main areas: the dream, the body and the ecstasy. In relation to the dream, specific aspects of dream activity, such as torpor and insomnia, and of the dream as a project are analyzed. Carl Jung's concept of shadow is close to the personifications of the fragmented identities of the contemporary subject in the literarytext. It also discusses the voluminous naming of the divine, as well as the composition of images related to the divine body, and its implications on the ability of language to say the absolute. Physical sensations and the effect of the passage of time on the body are considered from the perspective of the accumulation of meanings that this causes, as well as the notion of apartment implicit in obscenity. From the attempt at communion with the divine, analogies with pregnancy and with cannibalism and theophagy are analyzed, resulting in a poeteophagy. About ecstasy, the mobility of the spirit and its interaction with the body are examined, resignified in literature, which also contemplates an everyday ecstasy. The alteration of meanings and the consequent remake of consented ideas are linked to the experiences of drunkenness and madness, seen as ways of accessing knowledge. And the formal procedures used to elaborate the divine in literature are echoed in the image of circularity, which allows a marked opening in the formulation of a theme that defies the limits of the word. The texts of both authors dialogue with each other and with other authors of the literary tradition, such as San Juan de la Cruz, Teresa D'Ávila, Fernando Pessoa, Kafka and Vladimir Nabokov, and theorists such as Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Michel Serres, Gaston Bachelard, Octavio Paz, George Bataille, Paul Valery and Gilbert Rouget.

This work has as a general objective to analyze the political-discursive resonances of/in the school integration of Venezuelan migrants/refugees in Igarassu/PE and its possible implications in the narrative of the subjectivity of this migrant youth. In 2018, with the arrival of the new profile of students in public schools in the cities of the metropolitan region of Recife awakened us the alert that the schools, at this moment, were not prepared for such insertion, nor was the school community as a whole, composed of employees of various functions and the parents of the students. This scenario, accompanied by a critical moment in the Brazilian political arena, provokes us to seek how the Venezuelan children and youngsters, who arrived in Brazil as refugees, and their families are being treated in schools. Initially, following this issue from its repercussion in the virtual space, we understand that the arrival of Venezuelans in Brazil is not only considered a humanitarian cause, but an extremely political one. Therefore, the interest and the need to evaluate the political-discursive resonances of the school integration of Venezuelans in Brazil. Taking into account the processes of subjectivation and identification, we believe that bringing to discussion the political-discursive resonances of the school integration process of Venezuelan refugees allowed us to understand how the construction of an imaginary about the refugee space and the refugee subject have direct consequences on language teaching, With the contact, we can identify what the change of language, or the dual use, that is, the crossed use of both languages in different conditions and sayings, tells us discursively in terms of effects of meaning, which will allow us to understand what it means to teach mother tongue and foreign language in the context of migration. The first movement of analysis was around the conditions of production of the arrival of Venezuelans to Brazil, recovering the political and historical context that culminated with the crisis in Venezuela and how this has repercussions in Brazil, from readers' comments in the virtual space, etc; Next, we carried out an ethnographic work at school, from which we selected the discursive sequences for the analysis of the constitution of subjectivity of migrant/refugee students at school; then we started interviews with teachers; and finally (4) we conducted the workshop of drawing and text with Venezuelan children and adolescents, these last two steps being the objects of the main analysis of this research. As a result, we find the operation of the discourse about the Venezuelan migrant/refugee and that of the Venezuelan migrant/refugee discourse. The first operation characterizes the Venezuelan student as a stereotyped pattern, interdicts his language, culture and memory, and imposes a way of acting in order to be accepted. The second operation, through what we call discursive reappropriation, shows the forms of resistance of the Venezuelan subjects in/by language. Finally, I advocate the creation of active and sensitive listening spaces to allow the re-appropriation of discourse and the resistance of voices of Venezuelan migrants/refugees through an intercultural and decolonial perspective.

This thesis aims to reflect about the reasons that made the gender auto to be reintroduced into the Brazilian literary system in the twentieth century. For that, starts with an analysis of the formal elements of the religious theater from the classical Antiquity, through the medieval and Gil Vicente’s autos, to the Brazilian modern theater, in which the religious character is replaced with a radical conscience concerning the historicity of the artistic forms. Specifically, this thesis observes the most historically consequent kinds of autos, the miracle plays, the mystery plays and the morality plays, that were re-elaborated by a remarkable generation of writers in Pernambuco. Although its inadequacy has been taken for granted when it comes to the historical concert of artistic genders, the one we here analyze places a series of reflections in the center of the discussion about the future of the modern literary forms. It’s our interest to observe how Hermilo Borba Filho, Ariano Suassuna, and Osman Lins reclaim, in specific ways, this dramatic form, at the same time extracting what interested them in this tradition and injecting into it the content of an interpretation of the modernity in Brazil.

This study aims to investigate the use and linguistic attitudes about nominal number agreement in Guinea-Bissau Portuguese (GBP), focusing on the repercussions of linguistic contact between Portuguese and Guinean, as well as verifying the implications of this scenario on the sociolinguistic identity of Guinean citizens who speaks this variety of Portuguese. The hypothesis of this research is that, concerning the use of nominal number agreement, considering that it constitutes a variable rule in the written language of people with a low level of education (without complete University Education) - based on data from Paraiso (2019), due, among other factors, to the influence of Guinean morphosyntax in the GBP -, it is possible that the speech data indicate the maintenance of this typology of linguistic rule and that the perception data point to the speakers' awareness of this variation, being characterized by the demonstration of predominantly positive subjective evaluations regarding the use of nominal number agreement in GBP. We justify this investigation based on Labov ([1972] 2008: 150), who argues that, in addition to quantitative analyses, it is important for sociolinguistic studies to verify other forms of social behavior on a linguistic variant, including features that can be observed in types of explicit evaluative behavior, which we associate with linguistic attitudes. The specific objectives of this work seek to understand: 1) how does Guinean coexist with the GBP?; 2) what contrasts are possible between the inflectional morphology of number in Guinean and PGB found in the data under analysis; 3) what are the patterns of noun number agreement found in the spoken language of PGB; and 4) what comparisons are possible between production data (speech) and perception data (linguistic attitudes), bearing in mind the sociolinguistic identity of GBP speakers. To do so, we based the investigation on the theory of Variationist Sociolinguistics (LABOV [1972] 2008), since this theoretical contribution includes the social evaluation of speakers about linguistic uses, a domain that we analyze in the field of linguistic attitudes from the perspective of Social Psychology by Lambert; Lambert ([1966] 1981). Methodologically, we conducted interviews with 70 GBP-speaking Guinean collaborators - students at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony, located in Ceará (UNILAB-CE); as well as applying a sociolinguistic questionnaire, both based on Pissurno (2017); as also applying a linguistic perception test, based on Cardoso (2015). The results obtained indicate that: 1) based on the collected speech data, GBP is mostly used in the school environment, where its use is mandatory, while Guinean is widely used in the country, including at school, as a language that mediates the process of teaching-learning, even if this is not explicitly allowed; 2) the inflectional morphology of Guinean differs from that of GBP in the sense that, in the former, not all elements of the phrase need to receive the morphological plural mark, while in the latter, all the necessary elements must receive the plural morpheme; 3) the type of rule associated with nominal number agreement in the spoken language of GBP, based on the data from this study, is variable, with a percentage of 92% for the form with standard agreement and 8% for the non-standard form; 4) although the speech data pointed to an identity construction based predominantly on the participants' relationship with Guinean, their subjective evaluations regarding GBP were mostly positive, indicating that they are able to recognize that GBP is another variety of Portuguese and which has its own characteristics arising from the existing linguistic contact in the country.

In general terms, linguistic manifestations can occur, among other ways, through the spoken form or signed form, in the case of sign languages, and through the written form. Unlike Portuguese, a natural language of oral-auditory modality and possessing an already established writing system and official spelling, Libras (Brazilian Sign Language), a language that is also natural, but of visuospatial modality, has not yet it has a consolidated form of writing, although there are already several proposals for a written systematization for the recording of signs. The fact is that, as the written communication of deaf students happens, primarily, through Portuguese, it is natural that the linguistic-structural specificities of Libras appear, sometimes, reflected in these records, which are not always seen with good eyes. by society. Thus, with the present study, we raise the idea that there is also a Deaf Way of Writing, located between the structure of Libras and that of Portuguese. Thus, we propose a theoretical-methodological systematization for the written record of Libras in the written form of Portuguese based on the linguistic-structural organization of this sign language. To this end, among other referrals, we resorted, in the literature of the area, to questions referring, firstly, to written communication in general, from the considerations of Higounet (2003), Fischer (2009), Calvet (2011), Dehaene (2012 ), and others, and, later, to sign notation systems and sign writing systems designed for the recording of sign languages by deaf and hearing researchers and scholars. Thus, based on the written texts produced by deaf candidates and submitted to the vestibular for admission to the UFPE (Federal University of Pernambuco) Literature course, we identify, analyze and describe the linguistic-structural specificities of Libras for the constitution of a systematization theoretical basis of the written registration of Libras in the written modality of Portuguese from the very linguistic-structural organization of Libras and its linguistic phenomena and for the delineation of the theoretical-methodological bases of the proposal of registration of Libras, preliminarily identified as a third writing, the which reflects the Deaf Mode of Writing.

Writer. Playwright. Critical. Teacher. Osman Lins has always been a committed intellectual and an enthusiastic lover of literature. In the collection of articles published in the press and gathered in the book Do ideal e da Glória: problema inculturais Brasileiros, he frankly addresses aspects of cultural life at the time (1965-1976), which, after almost sixty years, still resurface with force, attesting to the relevance of many of his concerns. Some of these articles, therefore, contain the germs of the proposition of a literary research very close to that which today populate university courses focused on Creative Writing. As a writer, teacher, playwright and filmmaker, I have always been interested in Osmanian work; which I use as inspiration for my own productions, from academic to artistic ones. Thus, involved in an ambitious film adaptation project of the narrative “Retábulo de Santa Joana Carolina”, from the book Nove, Novena (1966), by the writer from Pernambuco, while at the same time that I was poring over the process of writing a doctoral thesis on this author, I saw the two activities inevitably intertwine, resulting in this hybrid work that I present to the Graduate Program in Letters at UFPE. The text initially deals with the very particular experimental way of conceiving the fictional narrative of the Retábulo, revealing how much Osman Lins stood up to orthodoxy also in the field of creation. Hence his interest in radical experiences carried out by the French, such as the Nouveau Roman in literature and the Nouvelle Vague in cinema, with which he established close contact during a scholarship that took him to Europe in the 1960s. The study of this parallel between literature and modern cinema also guided me in my own process of adapting the work in question, which resulted in the writing of a film script. It was possible, in this joint process of mine, to reach an intimacy with many aspects of literary creation that simple theorization would not allow. Quoting Osman Lins: “We also obtained something that the teacher and the student rarely know in the classroom: the joy of doing.” (1977, p. 78).

The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the representations of patriarchy based on a series of themes, motifs and topoi present in the novels Pedro Páramo (1955), Grande sertão: veredas (1956), Lavoura arcaica (1975), La hora azul (2005), Galileia (2008), Demasiados héroes (2009) and Azul corvo (2014). The narrators or protagonists find themselves under the shadow of the patriarchal paradigm and suffer its consequences, whether they overcome them or not. For the definition of patriarchy adopted in this thesis, the works of Lerner (2019), Beauvoir (1970), Delphy (2009) and Plastino (2016, 2017) are mainly taken into account. The contributions of Bakhtin (2018, 2019), González Boixo (1984, 2018), Eagleton (2003) and Pinto (1990) were equally important for this analysis and for the development of the concepts introduced. Through a critical-comparative approach, of an eclectic nature, priority was given to the identification of constants and variations of the themes, motifs and topoi initially identified, namely, telemachy, nostos, the demand of the ghost and the chronotope of home. From the critical analysis, new concepts were also introduced to account for the variables presented, namely, the archetype of the minotaur and the Comala and Ruinamérica chronotopes. In order to approach these thematic aspects, we first use the character-theme Telemachus as the common thread and thematic guide. Originally it represents the son in search of his father and returning home to join the violence of the patriarchal world. In our analysis, the Latin American doubles of Telêmaco became the prototype of a new archetype with Juan Preciado, who must break the father-son axiology in the search process to free himself from the patriarchal paradigm, in which he is unsuccessful. We call this conceptual scheme the Telemachus complex. In the novels analyzed, it was also noted that Juan Preciado's journey is fundamental, establishing a contrast with the original theme of Telemachus, from which he distances himself, since his return home does not imply integration into the patriarchy. At the same time, we identify that the later novels present rich updates of the archetype from the point of view of the comparative constants found. When analyzing the tragic element in part of the novels, we identify that they develop in closed, mythical and circular fictional environments, which we conceptualize as chronotope-Comala. Furthermore, the chronotope of the house turned out to be an ambivalent sign, a status quo maintenance space for the patriarch, a locus horrendus for the son, and is eventually traversed by the motif of ruin. At the same time, the assumption of precariousness, contradictions, and fragmentation of the relationships of these Latin American characters was identified as a constant that we call the Ruinamerica chronotope. Finally, we identify, in the comparison of the telematic doubles, a possible typology of its various variations in the analyzed works.

The purpose of this study is to formalize the concept of Construção de Especificação com Advérbio (CEA) as a structure of formal features and to integrate these findings into the Minimalist Grammar developed by Stabler (1997), following the framework of the Minimalist Program proposed by Chomsky (1995b). For this purpose, I am employing a variant of the Minimalist Grammar (GM) proposed by Keenan e Stabler (2003). The central objective is to analyze this linguistic phenomenon and apply the results to Minimalist Grammar, aiming to explain the involved derivation steps. Sentences that feature CEA are characterized by substituting a more general and comprehensive description with a more restricted one, or by transitioning from a generic context to a more specific example, through the use of adverbs of specification, such as "mainly", "especially", and "specifically", among others. These adverbs serve the function of providing greater precision to linguistic expressions. The chosen approach employs a descriptive method to identify the structure of CEA and its relationship with other sentence elements, especially those affected by CEA. Additionally, sentence elements are transformed into con- structions composed of phonetic, semantic, syntactic, and grammatical features, with a primary focus on the formal aspects of Minimalist Grammar. Among these traits, selection traits stand out, determining the choice of a specific category (=f), licensing traits, requiring the movement of a designated expression (=f), and licensor traits, which are necessitated by an expression. The elimination of formal features is also a significant step, as it enables the activation of generative operations (select, merge, and move). The findings obtained reveal that the phenomenon in question is constituted by an adverb that specifies the verb’s argument, without, however, altering the sentence elements, thereby maintaining semantic continuity. In the context of GM, sentence construction undergoes a series of operations that identify relevant features and forward expressions to the derivational space. The integration of CEA into the sentence structure is accomplished through the operation of select, starting from an unpronounced expression, and is integrated into the structure previously constituted by expressions that lack a direct relationship. This process indicates that CEA presents syntactic independence with its own projection.

Colonial literature on Guinea appears only in the third decade of the 20th century. XX was marked mainly by exoticism, paternalism, ignorance of the natives, etc. The literary work of Fausto Duarte, born in Cape Verde and resident in Guinea as an employee of the colonial administration, although written within the field of colonial literature, differs from other works for its narration of Guinea as if from the interior and for telling stories of the natives and present them as humane as Europeans. Guinean literary studies almost always focus on the post-colonial period, leaving the entire colonial period and its rich collection of complex existential questions in the dark. With an analytical and hermeneutic approach to Fausto Duarte's narratives, this thesis brings to the debate on Africa (and Guinea, in particular) the most significant literary work of the Guinean colonial period. Thus, based on the perception that there is in Duarte's work an Africanist attempt to see-reveal Guinea and the soul of the black and still considering this attempt as an outline of Duarte's African literature project, the present study investigates how the author literarily imagines the nation of Guinea, in full anticipation of what it would become, and shows that he achieves this through literary representations of ethnicity, colonization, memory, and the diaspora as components of the nation. Ethnicity is manifested in the representations of the Guinea-Bissau ethnic groups as nations, their ways of life, social organization, and cultures. Colonialism is seen in the presentation of a colonial situation in the search stage for total territorial domination and in the relations between the colonizer and the colonized. Memory is the element with which the pre-colonial and colonial history of Guinea is constructed by the characters in their conscious, unconscious, and nativist resistance against the colonial presence. The diaspora appears in many forms, but above all as an exile, restlessness of the soul, and lack of freedom of the natives in their homeland. This investigation problematizes the concepts that these components of the nation carry, considering the ambiguities that encompass a mestizo author who builds his work in the colonial situation, divided between two distinct and conflicting worlds, the African and the Portuguese.

This dissertation, inserted in the area of Applied Linguistics, namely Indisciplinary (MOITA LOPES, 2006), aims to analyze the discursive functionality of translanguage in the context of university students who were also studying Portuguese as a foreign language in the Portuguese Flagship Program at the University of Georgia (UGA/USA). To build the theoretical basis of this research, I began conceptualizing translanguage and tracing its relations with areas of important connections, such as the Decolonial studies and Education. To this end, I put in dialogue the thoughts of García (2011), Canagarajah (2013), Mignolo (2018), Walsh (2018), Quijano (2007), among others. The corpus of the research was collected during my Visiting Scholar Program (Doutorado Sanduiche PSDE/CAPE), through a critical-collaborative methodology (NININ and MAGALHÃES, 2017), having, also, an ethnographic character (LUCENA E CARDOSO, 2018). It focused on the observation of 13 classes, which ranged from 3 to 10 students per session, during the months of October/2021 to March/2022. Data analysis indicates that translanguage is a relevant pedagogical resource, playing an important role in complex and interdependent areas of the students’ life, namely: social, academic, linguistic and personal areas.

Our objective is to introduce Ann Lauterbach’s poetic and critical work by outlining four aspects of her writing: (1) poetic language irresolution as trace; (2) memory and its residual and fragmental interaction with language, time and subjectivity; (3) contemporary and untimely attitude towards tradition and transgression; (4) the poetical effort to subjective unsettlement. Therefore, through those four aspects we demonstrate how the poet - born in 1942 in New York City, United States - apprehends language as architectural to rectify absences. Lauterbach is aware that the intentions that teases the artist’s mind and body may not align with the reader’s apprehensions. The poet believes that readers search for their own meaningful fragments. Then, we offer a critical reading on memory and its relation to the poet’s écriture. In this case, we approach the contraction between remembrance and forgetting concerning time and subjectivity. Those aspects lead us to delve into the anachronistic quality of the contemporary. We argue on the conception of polyrhythmic, contemporary and untimely perception of the poet’s writing. Finally, we reach the subjective tension that underlies Lauterbach’s work. In that case, we show how the poet moves from the egotistic “I” to the congregational “we”, hoping for a continuum in the poetic realm as a form of community.

In his diachronic studies on the relative clauses of Brazilian Portuguese (BP), Tarallo (1983, 1985) states that at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, in Portuguese, only two relativization strategies coexisted, these called standard strategy and resumptive strategy (or reminder pronoun strategy). With regard to the innovative strategy, called cutter, it emerged in BP, in the middle of the 20th century. Thus, this thesis aims to investigate the behavior of restrictive relative clauses strategies in BP, throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, in letters and newspapers from Pernambuco, observing the occurrences of relativization strategies in their different syntactic contexts. In addition to Tarallo's (1983, 1985) diachronic studies on relative clauses, we consider those by Ribeiro and Figueiredo (2009), Mascarenhas (2016), and others for this thesis, in which they specifically make important contributions and map relative clauses in historical texts of the past in a specific Brazilian region, in order to understand, describe and map the use of relativization strategies in texts close to the oral form of Pernambuco speech. This research, therefore, is part of the stricto sensu perspective of Historical Linguistics, the so-called Socio-historical Linguistics (Mattos & Silva, 2008) in interface with Sociolinguistics (Labov, 1972), in order to observe the behavior of the three strategies of relativization found in the linguistic data of 66 letters (love, friend and family letters) and 77 newspapers from pernambucanos, totalizing 143 manuscripts and printed matter from the 19th and 20th centuries, in the latter more specifically we selected to investigate the following textual genres: editorial, reader's letter, advertisement from Pernambuco, considering that each textual genre has, in its compositional structure, traditional ways of saying and that each one corresponds to the writing of a certain period of society, serving as testimonies of the past as they come closer to face-to-face communication (Koch; Oesterreicher, 1996; Kabatek, 2006). With this, we obtained the following main results: I. greater occurrence of relative pattern both in prepositioned and non-prepositioned contexts in the 19th century in letters and newspapers; II. appearance of the resumptive in the 20th century in personal letters, especially in love letters; III. Similarly to the results of studies by Mascarenhas (2016), Ribeiro and Figueiredo (2009) and Caneiro et. Al (2022), who investigate personal letters from unskillful people, we noticed that the relativization strategies of letters and newspapers from Pernambuco obey the rules of the Accessibility Hierarchy (AH), having positions that are more sensitive to the relativization strategies SU > OD > OI > OBL > GEN > Object of Comparison, according to Comrie & Keenan (1977), adding, like the authors, Adjuncts (ADJ); IV. The frequent use of piedpiping decays over time, while the cutter appeared in the mid-20th century; V. Use of resumptive strategies in the subject position in 20th century love letters; VI. The use of relative markers que and em que which are an almost categorical majority in relative clauses; finally, VII. As Alexandre's (2000) studies on relative clauses in European Portuguese (EP) have demonstrated, in general, data of relative clauses in Pernambuco manuscripts and prints from the 19th and 20th centuries in this thesis have evidences that both educated and non-educated speakers have used the resumptive strategy more frequently and, equally, the frequency of use of relative cutters has increased. This thesis, therefore, intends to make contributions regarding the description of the varying use of relativization strategies in the 19th and 20th centuries, in which a possible change underway in BP may or may not be presented.
