He is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE)—specifically within the Center for Technology and Geosciences (CTG) and the Department of Production Engineering—and served as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences (GIRS) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2022. He earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Production Engineering (specializing in Operations Research) from the Federal University of Pernambuco in 2004, 2006, and 2009, respectively. He conducted part of his doctoral research (sandwich PhD) at the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy) in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Risk Analysis, supported by a CAPES scholarship. He is a member of the editorial board of the *Journal of Risk and Reliability* (https://journals.sagepub.com/editorial-board/PIO) and a regular reviewer for several journals, such as *Reliability Engineering and System Safety*. Currently, he is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Production Engineering (PPGEP) at UFPE’s Recife campus (rated level 7 by CAPES) and serves as the lead researcher at the Center for Studies and Tests in Risk and Environmental Modeling (CEERMA-UFPE). He coordinates the Human Resources Training Program PRH 38.1/ANP/FINEP. He is a member of the Brazilian Operations Research Society (SBPO) and a founding member of the Brazilian Association for Risk Analysis, Process Safety, and Reliability (ABRISCO), where he has previously served as Vice-President and Technical Director. He is also a member of the Affirmative Action Committee for Graduate Studies at UFPE. His scientific interests include reliability engineering, risk assessment, and the simulation and optimization of production processes.
