RESUMO:

This proposal aims to answer if a combined reward-penalty incentive contract would
increase whistleblowing intentions compared to individual contracts (rewards or penalties). In
addition, it aims to test if a combined reward-penalty incentive contract would increase
whistleblowing intentions when the whistle-blower has a close relationship with the
perpetrator compared to when the whistle-blower does not have a close relationship with the
perpetrator, and when the wrongdoer has high status compared to when the wrongdoer has
low status. I intend to perform three between-participants experiments. One 3 x 1, in which I
will manipulate the Incentive Contract (reward versus penalty versus reward-penalty). In
addition, two 3 x 2 where I will manipulate (1) the Closeness of the working relationship
(close versus not close) and (2) the Status of the wrong doer (low versus high), both
interacting with the incentive contract manipulation. I propose to randomly assign
professionals using the Prolific© tool and participants will be presented with a case scenario
adapted from pre-validated experimental designs. I also intend to perform a systematic
review of the literature on whistleblowing and incentive contracts. Currently, I am collecting
data to do the first screening and am selecting the papers that will compose the sample.
