PAGES: 81
BIG AREA: Ciências Exatas e da Terra
AREA: Matemática
SUMMARY:

The keynote of this study seeks to problematize the processes of formation and
conceptions of teachers who teach mathematics in the final years of Elementary
School, focusing on issues concerning learning and teaching knowledge to teach this
subject in a perspective of strengthening the Education of Ethnic-Ethnic Relations.
racial. In this sense, we asked ourselves about the knowledge and understanding of
five teachers who teach Mathematics in the Municipal Public Teaching Network of the
city of Agrestina, State of Pernambuco, regarding the perspective of an Anti-racist Mathematics Education. For this, we sought to map the literature on African and Afro-

diasporic epistemologies of mathematical knowledge and understand the knowledge and perspectives of these teachers through a semi-structured interview, relating the

teaching of mathematics articulated to African knowledge. The readings that guide
this work discuss the history of mathematics, ethnomathematics,
afroethnomathematics, knowledge, games and African mathematical teaching
approaches. We created a state of knowledge about African and Afro-diasporic
mathematical studies, contextualizing the entire discussion based on the 21
dissertations and 5 theses found. In organizing the corpus of research material, we
propose to use the teachers' narratives. We conducted the analyses, comparing the
data from each instrument in the light of what the specialized literature and
theoretical contributions recommend. Thus, we were able to observe the teachers'
lack of knowledge about African mathematical knowledge, as well as the need to
create spaces to discuss the prerogatives of laws in mathematics classes. We
highlight the importance of bringing this knowledge to more teachers and creating
strategies to strengthen the investigative and social responsibility role of students and
teachers of basic education.
