SUMMARY:

The main objective of this research is to analyze how students in the 3rd year of high school realize the articulation between the algebraic representation and the geometric representation of the straight object, using the Function Studio software as a tool to be used in this process. To achieve the previously exposed objective, we have established the following specific objectives: (a) To investigate the difficulties presented by 3rd year high school students when performing the articulation between the algebraic representation and the geometric representation of the straight object. (b) Understand the implications of this software on the articulation between the algebraic representation and the geometric representation of the straight object. (c) Discuss the use of the software in relation to the articulation between the algebraic representation and the geometric representation of the straight object. (d) Critically analyze the potentialities and difficulties/limitations of the software regarding the articulation between the algebraic representation and the geometric representation of the straight object, in the perspective of developing functionalities for possible modifications within this environment. The theoretical framework is constituted by the Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers (TRRS), proposed by Duval. In this perspective, we realized a previous analysis in relation to the straight object in the light of Didactic-Informatics Engineering (EDI) considering its epistemological, didactic, cognitive and informatics dimensions, interconnecting them. In addition, we use EDI as an analysis/reference framework to use educational software for an artifact that has already been developed. With this, we realized the need to propose situations using the Function Studium software as a tool, considering our theoretical contribution and the preliminary studies realized. The situations were experienced and analyzed to realize a critical analysis of the software from the EDI, pointing out the potentialities and difficulties/limitations, in the perspective of technology improvement.
