SUMMARY:

In the Brazilian Semiarid region, there are two political projects in dispute, the one for Combating Drought, arising from recurrent government actions since the beginning of the 20th century, and the one for Living with the Semiarid Region, which emerged in the 1990s from the socio-political articulation of non-governmental organizations and of civil society. The epistemological references that formulate the two proposals are historically antagonistic, in the same way that the understandings of development for this region are shown to be divergent, establishing a scenario of disputes between narratives based on different social, historical, political, economic and cultural assumptions. Both projects use statistical knowledge to prove and validate their narratives, presenting data referring to the sociopolitical contexts of the semiarid region through various instruments aimed at the acceptance of their perspectives. This project politically chooses the alignment with the perspective proposed by the Coexistence with the Semiarid project and focuses on the research question: is it possible to mobilize the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Statistical Literacy to promote the problematization of sociopolitical aspects of the semiarid region and, with this, to foster the references of the Political Project of Coexistence with the Semiarid? The general objective of this project is to develop a process of mobilizing the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Statistical Literacy that promotes the problematization of socio-political aspects of the Brazilian Semiarid Region and, with this, foster the references that formulate the Political Project of Coexistence with the Semiarid Region. Specifically, we will seek to: i) list a priori knowledge about the Project for Coexistence with the Semi-Arid Region; ii) analyze a training process from problematizing activities mobilized by the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Statistical Literacy; iii) to identify, in the participants' understandings, evidence of statistical literacy in perceptions, attitudes and attitudes towards the problematization of sociopolitical aspects of the Brazilian semiarid region; iv) to point out reflective actions related to statistical literacy processes that indicate resignification and new knowledge about the project of Living with the Semiarid Region. For the development of our research proposal, a virtual training group will be constituted, composed of 06 teachers, being 03 teachers and 03 teachers of Basic Education who teach Statistics in public schools belonging to the semiarid territory. The procedures will have two investigative stages. The first will be the recognition stage, which consists of characterizing the professional and academic profiles of the participating teachers, and identifying a priori knowledge about sociopolitical aspects of the semiarid region. The second stage will be the elaboration and execution of a formative process structured in 04 meetings lasting 2h30min each, with the purpose of seeking the mobilization of the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Statistical Literacy through pre-prepared formative activities and problematized by sociopolitical aspects that will have as a basis the articulation with the five founding imperatives that configure the meaning of coexistence, namely: 1- Coexistence with the Environment; 2- Economy of Coexistence; 3- Living with the Quality of Life; 4- Culture of Coexistence and 5- Political Dimension. During the activities, opinions, perceptions, attitudes, postures and other important actions of the teachers will be recorded, while we will mediate critical reflections that we believe are fundamental for the re-signification of understandings about the ways of living, existing and resisting in the semiarid region.
