SUMMARY:

The term cancel culture has growthn in the past years, specially on social media. For this research, the phenomenon is approached from the perspective of Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann around the concepto life and sense community in modern societies. Related to the studies of authors such as Pierre Bourdieu, who works with capital, Raquel Recuero with the understanding of social media on the internet and Izabela Domingues and Ana Paula de Miranda, who allow us to establish a parallel between the cancel culture and the activism consumption. it was possible to identify some factors that potentiate and establish this culture as a possible determinant of participation and rupture in sense community. Also based on the work of Michel Foucault, we understand the role of discourse as an element in the formation of rules of senses within those communities. For the research, three cases of cancellation were selected, considering the social representation of each  individual. From these episodes, it is analyzed how the discursive disputes present in the cancel culture can determine ruptures in sense communities. The discourse analysis technique was selected for to analyse the cases in order to understand the performance of users in the practice of the phenomenon.
