LUSO-LANDSCAPE DISPLACEMENTS: ARTIFICE, MEMORY AND ‘SAUDADE’ IN MIGUEL GOMES; CINEMA
Cinema. Landscape. Displacement. Artifice. Saudade.
From a cultural approach linked to the audiovisual, this project intends to articulate some concepts, such as cinema in transit, landscape, artifice, nostalgia and melancholy, with the intention of problematizing and
investigating the presence of all these elements in the cinema of the Portuguese director Miguel Gomes . It is also intended, within a not total approach, but partial of film analysis, to identify such characteristics in the
object of study proposed here. In addition, the research seeks to reflect on the way in which the displacement between the fictional and documentary fields takes place in the filmography studied here, in addition to the
incorporation and appropriation of Gomes from other cinematographic genres, such as the musical and the melodrama, for the creation and construction of a universe of its own, characteristic, fabulous, for the director. The work intends to reach the work of the filmmaker as a whole, including in its framework both his feature films and some short films. The development of the research aims to make use, primarily, of a theoretical-conceptual ballast on the previously mentioned themes, in addition to making use of the images of the films placed here for the discussion about the developments from the studied object.
