The bot is the father of lies: desinformation and the use of bots on Twitter
Surveillance Capitalism, Bots, Disinformation, Twitter, Pegabot
The growing use of robots to promote political disinformation (ITS RIO) lights an alert in the discussion about the internet and democracy. Still in formation, this is a field that lacks studies and development of tools, mainly in the brazilian context. In this sense, this research aims to analyze how bots spread desinformation on Twitter, taking as a focus the discussion on christian persecution in Brazil. Thus, we used the methodologies of Twitter data scraping and lexical analysis through the Netlytic tool. In addition, we identify bots using Pegabot (ITS RIO, 2018) in order to explore a Brazilian tool for identifying bots, providing data for tool improvement; identify the volume of bots disseminating disinformation about the persecution of christians on Twitter and describe the activity coordinated by them.
