SUMMARY:

The future, a theme so recurrent in sci-fi cinema, frequently presents itself as nightmarish scenarios. The dystopia is now placed firmly as the paradigm of the future and the state of exception as its most common rule of law, mediating the relations between individuals and institutions. This study aims to present a proposal of research supported by the historical background of the imagination of the future, and a study about the cinematic genre of science-fiction as well, to propose the supposed relations between speculative exercises such as the cinema and the reality, particularly under the guise of such concepts as the exception and the homo sacer, by Agamben. To that end, we will use as background to this study the plot of works that, although often different from each other, portray societies in a constant state of emergency, whose war, ultimately, is fought against their citizens and the
State, a strong agent of populational management and social control, conditioning its citizens to different status in terms of their legality and legal guarantees as well.
