SUMMARY:
This work aims to update the research on musical scenes in the area of Communication in Brazil, observing the interior of the Northeast. Taking as an object of study the rapper MCharles, from the city of Juazeiro do Norte/CE. Taking into account perceptions and concepts about sonic-musical territoriality, aesthetic performances and representation. The methodology chosen to cover these phenomena was cartography, so they were delimited by markings between the cities of Juazeiro do Norte, Crato and Barbalha (CE) in which the different musical scenes of the metropolitan region of Cariri interact. Throughout the research, the importance and what happens in bars, concert halls, public squares, events and cultural spaces in which different musical manifestations take place and bringing together people who share similar aesthetic tastes are highlighted. From this, we filter how the Rap scene in Cariri works within these scenarios, what are the lines of contact with other scenes and how the rappers and DJs themselves artistically position themselves. This dissertation is the continuation of the conclusion work of the Social Communication - Journalism course at the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA) “O Rap no Cariri: Entre o Centro e a Periferia” in 2017, in which I was able to follow, interview and have experiences with rappers who produced their own media materials. The following research comes with the purpose of delving deeper into improvisation groups and rhyming battles. Focusing on a specific one known as Batalha do Cangaço (BDC), to which the champion rapper of national rhyming battles, MCharles, emerged. Charles was a rapper who rose to much prominence during his journey of nationwide rhyming battles, and rose to greater prominence after becoming the champion of the 2019 National Battle of MCs in December. In the same year this research began. Through a media analysis of MCharles' performances in YouTube videos, separating a script of events, comments and perceptions about the rapper, and how the outside look is given to MCharles from Cariri.
