SUMMARY:

Considered a hybrid between the brega from Recife, the funk carioca and the tecnobrega from Pará, the bregafunk from Recife is experiencing a growth in digital platforms, in addition to being incorporated in political and educational campaigns. Understanding journalism as a form of non-formal knowledge and as a contributor for men and women to understand the world, we will seek to reflect on how journalism represents, in its news and reports, bregafunk: its reach on the national scene is shown, as well as its reappropriations, such as the choice of bregafunk for educational campaigns against harassment, for example. This is done, but it continues to reinforce the criminalization of its manifestation in the periphery, associating the genre with disputes involving drug trafficking and fights between organized supporters of the city's football teams. Thus, the problem question that guides our research is: How has bregafunk from Recife been represented by journalism? Our general objective is to analyze how journalism builds the image of bregafunk from Recife. We will focus on The Theories of Journalism to discuss journalism as a form of knowledge, analyzing news values and media scheduling; as well as in research on the Brega genus. We will use as methods, bibliographic and documentary research and content analysis (quantitative and qualitative). We will also conduct semi-structured interviews with the members of bregafunk,
trying to understand how they see themselves, if they agree with the representation of the genre made by journalism and how they define bregafunk.
