SUMMARY:

Musical genres are formed by a constellation of mediations that involve aesthetic, market, technological and social aspects (JANOTTI JR. and SÁ, 2019). From this, the understanding of Brazilian funk as music by black women and men is not simplistic or essential. Despite the entry of funk into the mainstream since the 1990s and which have gained strength in recent years through digital environments, the stigma of the funkeiro and the criminalization of the musical genre remain and are linked to an intersection of issues: geographic, class, race (associated with negative representations of blackness) and gender. Since funk is a vector of social, political and aesthetic tensions, I investigate the performances of whiteness by white national funk artists or those who are linked to funk at a certain point in their careers, identifying possible disputes and displacements of the musical genre. I observe the body as a place of transmission of knowledge in performances filed in audiovisual products by artists such as Anitta, Kevinho, and Adriana Calcanhotto. I understand whiteness as a place of power, an ethnic-racial identity attributed to white people and an analytical device that makes white subjectivity emerge in apparently non-racialized contexts. Resulting in reenactments of the removal of the funkeiro stigma, observed through Kevinho; of moralization of the butt in funk, in a video by Adriana Calcanhoto; and disputes around the idea of miscegenation mobilized by Anitta.
