THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN SCIENCE AND PSEUDOSCIENCE ON YOUTUBE: THE CASE OF THE CHANNELS

This dissertation aims to analyze how the argumentative discourse of science communicators against pseudoscientific content is established on YouTube. To this end, the research focuses on the channels ‘Física e Afins’ and ‘Prof. Daniel Gontijo"; focuses on videos that respond to statements related to spirituality, religion, health, and self-help that involve concepts from Quantum Physics. The choice and interest in this specific area of science are justified because quantum physics deals with phenomena that occur on microscopic scales, where the laws of classical or Newtonian physics do not apply properly. In recent decades, its principles have been used to explain phenomena considered supernatural and paranormal and provide evidence for statements of faith and religious beliefs. To analyze the videos, we will use a methodology based on Argumentative Analysis and Bakhtin's concept of dialogism.
