SUMMARY:

This work aims to understand the existence of a social phenomenon, which is established through a death policy aimed at LGBTI+ bodies and performances in contemporary Brazil and is seen in the media spaces of digital communication. This necropolitics (Mbembe, 2018) is inserted in a performativity (Butler, 2018b) of an anti- LGBTI+ character socially constructed in the country, which is structured politically, economically and culturally in order to promote the denial of existence and the promotion of symbolic death and/ or physics of LGBTI+ bodies and subjectivities. The investigation mobilizes an application of the genealogy proposed by Foucault (2001; 2014) of this necropolitics based on cases of censorship (Orlandi, 2007) to LGBTI+
artistic performances that took place in Brazil between 2017 and 2022. Ten cases were selected for an analysis that unfolded in three collection and observation instances: 1) the Observatório de Censura à Arte portal; 2) The ten news portals with the highest audience in the country in the period considered; and 3) the possible reverberations on digital social networks, characterized above all by public debate marked mainly by hate speech. The genealogical analysis of these cases, here considered events (Quéré, 2005; 2011), resulted in the understanding that this is a complex phenomenon founded on neoliberalism and the conservatism of the Brazilian population, strengthened especially by ideologies concentrated in religious, partisan and anti-scientific discourses that promotes symbolic and physical violence. Given this scenario, the study culminated in the proposition of a concept of necroperformativity, a term proposed here, which constitutes an expression specific to and derived from necropolitics. Ultimately, the concept of necroperformativity unfolds and applies to other bodies and expressions that are dissident or outside of heterocisnormativity, as well as other social norms that perpetuate power relations in Brazil and around the world.
