MONEY IN YOUR POCKET, BEAUTY AND AFFECTION: The images of control in dispute in the performances of black masculinities in Rap
Rap; Black Masculinities; Writing; Control Images
The imaginary constructed through images of control (COLLINS, 2019) dehumanizes the bodies of black people and the consequence of this humanization is the high mortality rate of this population in Brazil, especially among black men. In view of this, the present work seeks to demonstrate how the rap musical genre can be an analytical key to thinking about how black men have worked to deconstruct racist imaginary through writing (EVARISTO, 2020) interpellated by connected listening (JANOTTI JR, 2020 ) capable of creating environments where it is possible to imagine new forms and life experiences that gain strength in the oral language (MARTINS, 2021) of black bodies. With this, I activate music as a black place (RIBEIRO, 2020) that allows a re- fabulation (HARTMAN, 2020) of the black community in Brazil, in order to think about the performances of black masculinities present in the artistic manifestations of Djonga, Mano Brown and Baco Blues Exu. The proposal presented here seeks to articulate an intersectional analysis (AKOTIRENE, 2020) capable of allowing a
methodological shift in the studies of race and gender through music.
