SUMMARY:

The decision-making process is constantly present in different areas of individuals' lives, including the personal and professional spheres. Decision making involves individual psychophysiological parameters of each human being, which can be supported with the help of neuroscience. As the choice options increase, it is understood that the level of difficulty in making decisions increases proportionally, especially when different criteria are associated, characterizing a Multicriteria Decision problem. In the professional scope, decision support procedures emerge as important auxiliary tools in decision-making processes that allow optimizing and streamlining the decision-making process, promoting it in the most assertive way possible. This study used the electroencephalogram (EEG) equipment to analyze the cognitive performance of students of the Administration and Production Engineering courses at the Federal University of Pernambuco, when performing calculation and music activities and, additionally, using a Decision Support System (DSS). ). ) based on the Tradeoff procedure for multicriteria decision making. A final sample of 35 participants was evaluated, where it was possible to verify the activation of the brain function that acts automatically for the group of up to five criteria and above five criteria for both the theta band and alpha band. The results demonstrate the greater cognitive effort required to solve multicriteria problems, as expected, while emphasizing the importance of the Tradeoff to aid decision making. In addition, the study highlights the importance of participants' concentration during the execution of the Tradeoff procedure, which will allow even stronger results with the use of DSS. This study highlights the importance of using neuroscience data to help the development and improvement of systems aimed at multicriteria decision making, insights into how the analyst should interact with the decision maker.
