SUMMARY:

Cities are places where people must and can come together, work together and exchange ideas in a productive, safe and comfortable way. However, in the large Brazilian metropolises there is a socio-economic segregation and the low-income population was pushed to places further away from the city, forming peripheries. The city of Recife is an example of this. The absence of specific urban planning for the city of Recife condemned the population residing in the periphery to experience problems of landslides, flooding of riverside communities, among other situations. Due to the increase in the incidence of mass movements on slopes during the rainy season, it is important to analyze and understand the behavior of the influence of water level variation on the soil instability process. Landslides can help to estimate the volume of sediment produced by a given rainy event capable of triggering these phenomena. Therefore, this work has as main objective the geological-geotechnical characterization and the stability analysis of a slope of the Barreiras Formation, located in the neighborhood of Passarinho, in Recife. In addition, an inventory of landslides will be prepared, based on Civil Defense records and susceptibility maps to landslides will be developed based on the results of the TRIGRS, SHALSTAB and SINMAP mathematical models. The sensitivity of the results will be analyzed through the ROC curve and the models used will be compared to see which one has the best prediction. This area was already a victim of landslides in 2000 and about 100 families were left homeless after losing their homes. The geotechnical characterization was carried out through a test campaign carried out at the UFPE Soil and Instrumentation Laboratory, among them, geotechnical characterization tests (granulometry, sedimentation, LL, LP, real grain density), tests to obtain the resistance parameters (friction angle and resistance intercept) – Direct Shear and Triaxial Compression, tests to obtain the characteristic curve (filter paper) and tests to obtain the permeability coefficient (Triflex). The instrumentation was carried out by installing a rain gauge and inclinometers along the sounding profile to monitor the existence of any signs of landslides. The slope is approximately 56 m high and 414 m long (following Av. Chagas Ferreira). The geological formation of the soil of the slope is characterized by the Barreiras Formation, presenting mostly sand with prismatic and spherical quartz grains, sub-angular to angular. The surveys carried out showed that the soil at the top of the slope has low resistance up to a depth of 7m. The water level was not found in any of the surveys carried out. The inclinometers show that there is no sign of slope movement. The results of the resistance parameters are in agreement with others obtained in soils of the Barreiras Formation in the areas of the Metropolitan Region of Recife.
