SUMMARY:

The use of the NSM (Near-Surface Mounted) technique in the reinforcement of reinforced concrete beams with CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) laminates has been the subject of experimental and numerical research in the last two decades. Despite the proven efficiency of the technique in reinforcing the shear and bending of reinforced concrete beams, the available analytical models for shear design are few and present great dispersion. When it comes to the reinforcement of beams after fire, the scenario is even scarcer and without a proposal for an analytical formulation, being an aggravating and limiting factor the insufficient amount of experimental data about the reinforcement after fire. In this sense, the present work aims to carry out an experimental campaign involving shear reinforcement with NSM CFRP laminates in reinforced concrete beams at room temperature and after subjected to heating of 60, 90 and 120min according to the standard fire curve ISO 834 (2014). Reinforcements will be applied at different spacings in order to measure their efficiency and limits. Experimental data will be used to validate a numerical model and, after a parametric study, propose an analytical procedure for design. As a result, it is expected to observe if the reinforcement is effective after fire, if there is loss of efficiency and if the analytical formulations for room temperature are applicable after the fire. It will also be analyzed the possibility of using reduction factors or adopting more rigorous criteria to the existing models for room temperature and, in this context, arriving at a simplified proposal for post-fire. The fulfillment of the experimental planning was preceded by a series of experimental tests and analyzes on available formulations, namely: (1) evaluated a simplified analytical procedure to predict the residual capacity of reinforced concrete beams and (2) a procedure is proposed - with based on analytical models available in the literature – to measure the contribution of NSM CFRP laminates in the shear reinforcement of reinforced concrete beams at room temperature.
