SUMMARY:

Transport plays a vital role in urban dynamics. However, the inefficiencies due to the lack of integration make transport-related negative externalities reduce people’s quality of life and the region’s liveability. To increase cities’ sustainability and reduce clime changes, a solution that is gaining focus in the transport field is freight and passenger integration. This field Has several advances day-by-day in terms of operational research, but little is being said about policy-making and concept structuring. This thesis fills this gap, structuring the knowledge built thus far for any kind of audience. Therefore, the application of the integration can be widespread. The cargo-people mobility (CPM) concept, conceptual model and pillars developed in this thesis come into detail and illustrate what a common cargo and people’s flows can be. Also, this discussion is concentrated in the Global North context, but the countries at the Global South Alliance also have the potential to implement this kind of solution. This thesis also comes to fill this gap. It demonstrates that researchers in Brazil see the CPM as a viable solution for the country. The thesis also presents CPM project examples for the Brazilian context, with modifications at strategic public transport stops, transforming them into shared infrastructures.
