SUMMARY:

It addresses the subject of information processing, more precisely, the indexing of legal information, starting from the question: How has Information Science produced and disseminated scientific knowledge on the subject of indexing of legal information? It presents as a general objective the analysis of the scientific production on the subject indexing of legal information in the area of Information Science (CI), between two specific objectives of elaborating a systematic mapping of the literature and identifying an overview of publications in CI on indexing of legal information . As for the methodological procedures, it is of a theoretical nature, with its objectives established in exploratory and descriptive research; present qualitative and eventually quantitative data. The method used is the Systematic Mapping of Literature, based on searches carried out in the main databases of the area: BRAPCI (Referential Database of Newspaper Articles in Information Science), LISTA (Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts), Redalyc ( Network of Scientific Journals from Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Scopus and Portal de Periódicos CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). Based on the observations and two results obtained with the execution of this research, it is clear the scarcity of scientific publications, within the period of 2002 to 2022, that contemplate indexing in the legal domain in the area of Information Science. It is concluded that most of the articles selected for analysis bring studies that evaluate and compare the indexing service already installed in a given institution. However, it is noticed that there are efforts on the part of the authors to develop or even improve facilitating instruments that help the user to have an increasingly efficient information search recovery, be it in the form of doctrine, judgment, legislation or jurisprudence. Therefore, based on the data shown in this research, it is suggested that libraries and information centers (which work with indexing in the legal domain) promote the strengthening of dialogue and interdisciplinarity between Librarianship, Information Science and Law, in the search for the improvement of professional practices that will positively impact the user's experience and satisfaction when using information retrieval services
