SUMMARY:

The technologies are present in everyday human activities and, as an effect, in the production, use and destination of archival documents. In this context, this thesis aims to propose a life cycle model of digital curation for digital archival documents, since the existing models in the archival literature are not sufficient to address all the processes of curation and preservation required for archival documents in digital environments. In the digital context, there was a change not only in the form and format of the archival document, but also in its representation, storage medium, organization, preservation, availability and access. To achieve the research objective it was used descriptive research, of qualitative nature, and it was made use of bibliographic research and document analysis. In this way, it was possible to obtain as a contribution of this study, the discussion about the gaps and limitations of the existing document lifecycle models; a list of seventeen premises for a curatorial model for the archival context; as well as the proposal of a curatorial model for digital archival documents, based mainly on the Digital Curation Centre Lifecycle model, but with some steps/activities inspired in other curation models presented in this thesis. For the proposal were extracted, merged and deleted stages of the models studied, with the intention that the model adapted to the archival context, respects the guiding principles of archivistics in the digital context. The proposed model is customizable, with application of the steps separated or aggregated, allowing the document to go through the three documentary ages. Thus, despite not having been evaluated yet and having some limitations, the proposed model can be considered an initial proposal that may prove relevant to the archival context
