SUMMARY:

It approaches the theme of information treatment, more precisely, the indexing of legal information, based on the question: How has Information Science produced and disseminated scientific knowledge on the theme of legal information indexing? It presents as a general objective the analysis of the scientific production on the subject of legal information indexing in the area of Information Science (IC), through the specific objectives of elaborating a systematic mapping of the literature and identifying a panorama of publications in Information Science (IC) on legal information indexing. As for the methodological procedures, it is of an applied nature, with its objectives based on exploratory and descriptive research; presenting qualitative and, eventually, quantitative data. The method used is that of Systematic Mapping of Literature, from searches carried out in the main databases of the area: Brapci (Reference Database of Journal Articles in Information Science), LISTA (Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts), Redalyc (Network of Scientific Journals of Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and Scopus. Regarding the results, it is expected the construction of a general panorama about the theme from the selection and analysis of data from scientific publications (from 2002 to 2022) retrieved for the identification of research, authors, research dates, problems, procedures and developments; identification of the most productive authors and to which institutions they are linked; and, detection of the temporal distribution of these publications. The main purpose of this study is to contribute to the advancement of research in the area of CI, especially in the field of legal information indexing, since it is a domain with few publications in the last twenty years.
