SUMMARY:

The Information Society has as a clear characteristic the modification of the economic, political, social and cultural structures of the countries and the creation of the need to establish new policies. This informational magnitude gave rise to Big Data, which is a phenomenon by which data is produced in different formats and stored in a large number of devices and equipment. This context triggers new sciences, as is the case of Data Science, which focuses on the observation and study of the life cycle of data, from production, storage, transformations, analysis to disposal. The present research reflected on the adoption of Big Data and Data Science in the decision-making process of Pernambuco Institutes of Science and Technology (ICT's) and its impact on the production of knowledge, innovation and technology, in the 2015-2019 period. The methodology is exploratory and descriptive with a qualitative approach, since it is indicated to capture information also from the exploration of literature references. The strategy adopted was configured in a collective case study and the results were given with the technique of content analysis. The study states that Data Science exists in ICTs that are not very formalized, but with several of its methodologies applied to a Big Data considered as a framework in the learning curve of each institute, especially those that are older. This Data Science suffers from the lack of financial resources and is used to support the decision-making process, improving the effectiveness of results in the production of knowledge, technology and innovation.
