THE INFLUENCE OF BOTS IN INFORMATIONAL PROCESSES: LIMITATIONS, BENEFITS AND DEVELOPMENTS
Bots. Information processes. Computational autonomous agents. Information life cycle. Artificial Intelligence
It aimed to analyse how the use of computational autonomous agents or bots, in the internet context, has influenced the execution of informational processes and the interaction with human beings, under the perspective of Information Science (IC). The research is characterized as bibliographic and descriptive and was conducted based on a Systematic Mapping of Literature; documentary analysis; and systematic direct observation of the use of some of the bots. Multiple case studies were conducted with real cases of bots that operate performing activities related to information on the internet, in order to verify the informational processes performed, limitations, benefits, developments, as well as the influence on themes of the IC area. As a result, it was noticed that bots, regardless of their purpose, perform several types of informational processes, and that they can act in a beneficial or harmful way. It was observed that they still have limitations when the informational process involves cognition, empathy and creativity, considered human abilities. In some cases, it was found that there are problems because they do not meet ethical, moral and/or legal restrictions. We conclude that several themes worked in the context of IC are relevant for research involving bots. Thus, it is necessary that information professionals consider artificial intelligence and its products as entities that act on the information available in the network, so this performance should be studied from the perspective of IC, since these "non-human" actors interact with humans and among themselves, and act on informational processes
