SUMMARY:

The National Libraries are responsible, among other things, for storing, representing and giving access to items in their collection, among these items is literary fiction. However, to be accessed, it is necessary to represent them, corresponding to the fields of the catalog, which, once filled, provide users with ways to access the document, such as title, author and subject. The latter being the focus of this research, because when it comes to aesthetic-literary works the representation has been lacking, since in most cases the National Libraries do not assign subject terms and as these information units are usually references to the others country the treatment given to literature ends up being copied. However, both not assigning terms that correspond to the subjects addressed in the artifacts, and copying the thematic representation of other units are not consistent with the theory of indexing. Considering that indexing is an expensive activity and that the literary aesthetic genre has its particularities, tools were created to assist in the practice with these works, among them, the Guidelines for Indexing Aesthetic-Literary Works (DIEL) that will be applied in this work, in four fiction books, demonstrating a dialogical path towards indexing, and thus, the perception of a new characteristic of this activity. Thus, the general objective is to show how the postulates of the Bakhtinian Philosophy of Language can help in the processes of reading and representing fiction literature in the catalogs of National Libraries in Latin America based on the Guidelines for Indexing Aesthetic-Literary Works. Its specific objectives are: a) Discuss how the concepts of discourse genres and dialogism are applied in the process of indexing works of literary fiction; b) To survey the models for reading and thematic representation of works of literary fiction; c) Apply the DIEL in works of literary fiction cataloged in national libraries, in Latin American countries, to analyze the thematic representation process and, in the end, make a comparison of the results obtained; and, d) Propose dialogical indexing through DIEL as a route to assist in the indexing and retrieval of aesthetic-literary works. Concerning the method, this research is of an applied nature; as for the objectives, methodological and descriptive; characterized by approaching the problem as qualitative; and, by the procedures, bibliographic. It shows in the results that fiction literature addresses issues, and these, despite existing in controlled vocabularies, are not being represented and, finally, proposes a dialogic indexing concept and that DIELs are adopted by National Libraries.
