SUMMARY:

The Public University has to make its findings accessible and, thus, provide society with the knowledge generated in its core, thus affecting the process of open access (open access) to scientific production. Its Institutional Repositories (IRs) act for this purpose and the Representation of Knowledge in these spaces is directly influenced by cultural issues, by the phenomenon of globalization and new technologies, which demand a concern with the ethical dimension. When moral values are denied, there is an ethical dilemma and one of the ways to enable users to reflect their values is cultural hospitality. For this reason, this descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, whose investigated population is the IRs of the Federal Public Universities of the Brazilian Northeast, aims a general way to identify the ethical aspects of the indexing carried out in the IRs. More specifically, to characterize how indexing is carried out, in the light of cultural hospitality by Beghtol (2002, 2005); verify that this activity follows standards/norms; and find out how ethical problems are detected and resolved during indexing. To this end, the survey of documents in the IRs was carried out on an ethical basis guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which make up the 2030 Agenda or depth (detail) of the description. The next stage involved sending a questionnaire to each Institution's Library System Director.
