SUMMARY:

The research analyzes the advantages and challenges associated with the use of audiovisual in the academic-scientific environment, as well as highlights the importance of including this type of content in Institutional Repositories (IRs). Digital video has the advantage of being easily distributed and accessed through the internet, it is a technology that has revolutionized the way of producing, sharing and consuming video content. The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant impacts, including the need to adapt to the online environment. During the period of social isolation, in-person activities were adapted to the virtual environment, with “live” and videoconferences becoming the most accepted answer worldwide to hold scientific events and lectures. However, no storage records or actions were found to guarantee future access to these materials. The general objective of the research is to analyze how the audiovisual resource is being made available in Institutional Repositories. As for the methodological procedures, the study adopts quali-quantitative approaches, of an exploratory nature, using documentary and bibliographical research and the study of several cases. The study of several cases uses the non-participant observation technique and analyzes four Federal Public IRs selected to investigate how these institutions make videos of scientific content available in their informational environments, seeking a deeper understanding of how these videos are disseminated and stored. Through documentary research, the Policies for the inclusion of digital video in each repository were analyzed, in order to verify how this type of document is treated. In addition, articles retrieved from the Web of Science will be verified, applying the bibliometric technique, to analyze the content of these works and, thus, verify the challenges and advantages in safeguarding this audiovisual resource, in order to define good practices for an efficient availability of digital videos in Institutional Repositories.
