SUMMARY:

The oxidation kinetics at high temperatures of stainless steel 347 coatings is an important phenomenon to evaluate the performance of this material in critical applications such as boilers, pressure vessels, and the oil and gas sector. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the oxidation kinetics at high temperatures of stainless steel 347L coatings deposited by the GMAW process on a 2.25Cr - 1Mo steel substrate, identifying the oxides formed at high temperatures in synthetic air and water vapor atmospheres, and also evaluating the corrosion resistance after high-temperature oxidation. The study was conducted with variations of the shielding gases in the GMAW welding process (100% Argon, 98% Argon + 2% , 96% Argon + 4% , and 75% Argon + 25% ). The oxidation kinetics of the coating is being analyzed by thermogravimetry and the characteristics of the formed oxides are being identified by Scanning Electron Microscopy techniques - SEM with EDS, X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry - XRF, and X-ray Diffraction - XRD.
