SUMMARY:

Inserted in the Amazon rainforest Pará is a territory with rich biodiversity and with important participation on mineral area, being today one of the main Brazilian states on producing gold and gems. Inspired by fauna, flora and local culture, jewelry from Pará adds alternative natural material to noble materials from traditional jewelry. However, less information is systematized over the adornments with these materials, specially those with Amazon seeds. Then, this academic research has as its goal to purpose a preliminary mapping of productive chain of seeds adornments, in the context of Belém city, in order to recognize the origin of raw material, fabrication processes, such as the environmental and social impacts associated to the business, looking to support State public policies to maintain this economic activity. The ued method was designed from the handicraft productive chain analysis model, developed by O Imaginario laboratory from UFPE, to collect information from the agents inside the raw material identification, productive processes and marketing access protocols. The research tools applied were: technical visit, photographic records of production places, ~marketing and promotion of seeds adornments, besides structured interviews with designers, with the manager and a salesperson from Espaço São José Liberto – PA and an engineer from EMBRAPA. The result of the research pointed that the right treatment of the seeds can add value to the raw material to the level of organic jewelry and some fragilities of productive chain are on the initial steps, specially on collecting and beneficiation of seeds, creating a dependency of producers/designers to the middleman. Nevertheless, since 2009, there is on this area a systematic process of Amazon seeds beneficiation purposed by EMBRAPA, that should broadly spread to local products. It declares the need of public policies to integrate scientific research actions to raw material certification processes to consumer market of jewelry sector of Pará looking for the sustainability of business.
