SUMMARY:

This dissertation investigates the implementation of augmented reality as a mediation tool for the technical drawing cognition applied in the scope of scenographic production of conceptual projects -Tailor Made. To this end, the theoretical foundation comprises the themes of Augmented Reality (AR), deepening the state of the art on web-based mobile augmented reality - Web AR; in addition to cognitive factors (human, emotional and spatial abilities), virtual prototyping, and technical design aspects. The research process took place in the light of Design Science Research (DSR) as it sought to develop a solution for a specific class of problems that meet human purposes, as well as to produce knowledge from this process. To achieve the research objectives, DSR considers abductive methods, combined with inductive and deductive methods. The research is outlined in five main stages. The first, conscientization, consists in the definition and formalization of the problem regarding spatial technical communication in the scenographic production line (external environment) tailor made projects. The necessary satisfactory solutions are outlined by the literature review and the analysis of similar artifacts resulting in the definition of requirements and scope, which lead the project, development and evaluation process. Artifact development and verification occur in small interactive cycles, based on agile methods. The study evaluates the dimensions of spatial intelligence (spatial skills) of the participants, before and after the use of the mediation tool in the real work context, and verifies the user's satisfaction with the proposed system, through a subjective questionnaire, based on the traditional model of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), including more specific dimensions interactive technologies, inserting constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The knowledge generated from the entire process can serve as a basis for other researchers to improve, at a comprehensive level - new tools using immersive AR technologies, and at a specific level - tools for the development of spatial skills or mediation for the visualization of technical drawings.
