SUMMARY:

The application of ergonomic principles in computer systems design makes the interaction with the user more adequate, facilitates the execution of tasks, generates more efficient results, and positively influences the user experience. The emotional aspects are part of this scenario because they are intrinsic factors to the human being when performing any activity. Therefore, it is possible to analyze them through self-report tools. However, there are doubts about the actual efficiency of questionnaires regarding the veracity of the opinions reported since people control the answers and may change them involuntarily or on purpose. In other words, the researcher does not always know whether the reported experience matches the real experience felt. And this condition of doubt applies to both opinions about system usability and emotional evaluation. In this sense, understanding the psychophysiological aspects can be a differential for a correct interpretation of the user experience. This research aimed to verify the emotional correlation between self-report responses and the results obtained through the use of non-invasive psychophysiological measurement tools. Using two computer driving systems as objects of analysis, an electronic entertainment game, and training software, it was possible to verify differences and similarities between emotional responses, with positive and negative parameters. Thirteen volunteers answered the GEW and PANAS questionnaires to report their emotions. Their brain electrical activity and facial temperature were captured by EEG and infrared thermography, respectively, generating psychophysiological results. Through the Valence Hypothesis, the IAAF, and the thermal alteration of the face, correlations and emotional coherence between spoken and felt responses were verified. The usability of the systems was also analyzed through the hybrid model of Leventhal & Barnes and the SUS, reinforcing positive and negative opinions of the systems. The results pointed out differences in valence between self-reports and psychophysiological measurements, reinforced the potential of thermography and EEG in investigating human emotions, and contributed to the discussion on male and female performance and responses.
