SUMMARY:

This research aims to discuss the concept of Urban Graphic Memory, using as a starting point decorative elements present in the architectural constructions of some neighborhoods in the city of Recife. A gradual process of degradation of the city's heritage is slowly taking place, taking with it graphic and visual elements of its architecture, exemplified in this investigation by the artifacts studied: cobogós, hydraulic tiles, tiles and railings. In order to record their presence in certain places in the city, an affective mapping was carried out through drifting walks and photographic records. The itinerary was defined based on the results of a Focus Group with participants involved in architecture, urban landscapes and their preservation. Discussions were also raised about the surface and use of ornament and its transformations from being produced in small workshops by artisans to being made in industrial warehouses. Also investigated was the relationship between graphic memory and design and the result of a Systematic Literature Review with the aim of surveying the concepts of graphic memory and the authors and works that dialog with elements present in the urban landscape.
