SUMMARY:

The Brazilian region of the Agreste Pernambucano has had a strong relationship with the production of jeans since the 1980s. For the people of the Agreste, this garment represents much more than clothing; it has been a symbol of opportunity, job creation, and income generation. However, despite being the most consumed apparel in popular markets, particularly among women, discomfort during use is still widely mentioned. However, despite previous research in the Agreste Clothing LPA (Local Productive Arrangement) regarding the design and production process of jeans having studied the produced clothes focusing on an perspective of ergonomics, there are no reports of a practical application. Thus, this study aims to investigate the wearability of women's jeans produced in the Agreste Clothing LPA of Pernambuco, Brazil, in order to propose evaluation guidelines for the qualification of this segment. This research is hypothetical-deductive and predominantly empirical, with methodological steps divided into four main phases: 1) survey of jeans brands/companies in the LPA to understand current production processes and selection of three qualitatively representative brands for the study; 2) interviews with producers from the selected companies; 3) interviews with users of jeans that was produced by participating companies, to identify metrics of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of this product; 4) wearability assessment using thermography. Based on the results from phase 4, wearability assessments were conducted in a real-use context. Using the findings, guidelines for evaluating the wearability of women's jeans produced in the LPA were developed, which can be applied during the design phase and assessed during prototyping to make necessary adjustments before large-scale production, within the scope of what is understood as Design Ergonomics. The intention is to share these results with the companies and offer training for the application of wearability guidelines in the development of new models, with the goal of positively impacting the quality of these pieces.
