Iconography and Identitity in the History of Alagoas: an analysis of sculptures from the perspective of information design.
information design, iconography, sertão alagoano, ilha do ferro.
The present work aims to understand the iconography present in the works of artists from the sertão of Alagoas in search of highlighting memory and cultural heritage through local production, from the perspective of Information Design. For this study, we began our research specifically with wood carvers living in the village of Ilha do Ferro, in the municipality of Pão de Açúcar, in order to catalog the elements of the region and preserve them as the historical heritage of the people of Alagoas. Here we intend to understand its origins and memories from a past of colonization that echoes in the northeastern lands to the present day, applying, along with design, the Theory of Social Representations (1961) and the Central Nucleus Theory (1976) as a way of discussing its importance and development. Finally, we reflect on what constitutes the Brazilian northeastern identity in Alagoas and how it was constructed over the decades.
