SUMMARY:

Underwear is worn in direct contact with the skin and, when poorly designed, can cause negative interactions with the body structure and dissatisfaction for users, as well as interfering with the performance of daily activities. It is therefore important to study the ergonomics of underwear. Therefore, the aim of this research was to propose tools for assessing the wearability of women's underwear (bras and panties), which can be used in the prototyping phase, in order to contribute to the quality, comfort and safety of these artifacts. It should be noted that few studies were found on the configuration of clothing produced in the Agreste de Pernambuco Apparel LPA. There is a gap in research, both in terms of the experience of wearing underwear and in understanding how the fashion design process takes place - from creation to manufacture. The theoretical and methodological contribution to wearability made it possible to analyze the interaction between the configurative elements of the garment, the characteristics of the users and the context of use, in order to identify metrics for evaluating the performance of the garment and the satisfaction of the users. Methodologically, this is a predominantly empirical study with a hypothetical deductive approach whose main phases are: 1) a survey of underwear producers in the Pernambuco APL; 2) identification of metrics based on previous reports of use by a relevant sample of bra and panty consumers; 3) evaluation of the identified metrics to propose a tool that corroborates the evaluation of the wearability of bras and panties in the prototyping phase. Thus, effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction metrics for the wearability of bras and panties were identified and evaluated in wearability tests, in a real work context. The results of the subjective evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency metrics made it possible to identify the performance of each of the bras and panties analyzed. The satisfaction metrics made it possible to identify the configurational elements of the bras and panties associated with discomfort and positive attitudes. Based on the identification of the metrics and the results of the wearability tests, tools were proposed, consisting of Checklists for evaluating bras and panties in the prototyping phase in the industry. The Checklists were tested with one of the participating companies, proving to be effective and efficient for understanding problems in the interaction between the body and underwear, as well as identifying positive attributes, favoring more efficient and precise design solutions, providing the best fit and comfort.
