SUMMARY:

The design of fashion, in terms of both the design process and its practical implementation, demonstrates great difficulty in accommodating diverse bodies, especially when it comes to people with disabilities or mobility restrictions. It is a deficient scenario regarding the understanding and fulfillment of specific needs of this audience regarding the act of dressing, in addition to the propagation of body ideals that marginalize not only this group but also any other body that deviates from the reflexively reproduced standards. In this sense, one questions whether this lack of accessibility in the market is a reflection of a lack of preparation for designers in their professional training process.
Therefore, this research is structured around the perspective of fashion design education as a potential means of training professionals qualified to work in a transitioning contemporary context towards a more inclusive practice. In this regard, concepts of disability and fashion design are explored at both macro and micro levels, aiming to outline a framework that supports the feasibility of a design and production scenario in fashion that aligns with the specific abilities and restrictions of this particular audience. The research methodology follows an inductive approach, utilizing literature review to establish conceptual references for the research, as well as analytical and comparative tools to examine fashion design approaches, and an analytical study of methodological processes in the fields of design, fashion design, and ergonomics. The objective is to structure a possible instrumental contribution focused on inclusive projects. The research aims to construct a conceptual model linked to the design process targeted specifically for this audience, with primarily didactic applicability.
