SUMMARY:

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that usually shows the first characteristics in childhood. The Brazilian Law of Inclusion, in addition to other factors, clarifies the rights of autistic people and, among others, Assistive Technology is seen as a service that can contribute to everyday life. In the school context, the presence of TEA students is becoming frequent and, therefore, inclusion is essential. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to think about the English teacher, understanding the teacher training course, the challenges present in teaching the language for autistic people and the use of digital technologies as Assistive Technology resources during teaching. As specific objectives, the proposal is: to reflect on the training of English teachers regarding the use of DICT for teaching people with autism; understand the reality of the english teacher to ASD students through online semi-structured interviews; analyze the teachers' reports, seeking to understand the reality that deals with the English teacher, technology and students with autism to propose alternatives on how to insert these resources in their teaching practices. As a methodological suport, among others, Moita Lopes (2006), Kanner (1943, 1949), Galvão Filho (2009), Tardif (2014) on Applied Linguistics, autism and teacher training, laws and decrees related to autism and Assistive Technology. So far, the results indicate that the lack of professional training, adequate structure and support in schools are the biggest challenges experienced when teaching English to autistic people.
