SUMMARY:

This research brings a literary analysis of the intertextual and intermedia elements found in the work of Hermilo Borba Filho, based on the study of the novel Agá (2019), establishing connections with other languages, such as theater, dance, and comics. Hermilo's work is guided by an intrinsic relationship between his life, his hometown, Palmares, and a poetic look at the cultural practices of the Northeast region. We used, initially, the theories of Linda Hutcheon (1980, 2013) and Patricia Waugh (2001), to examine issues of intertextuality and autofiction, analyzing the paths found by the author in the structure of the cited novel, which interrelates, through the self-narrator, elements of fiction and reality. Regarding intermediality, we investigated the intersemiotic relations between theater and dance performances produced in Recife based on Hermilo's literary work, mainly adaptations of short stories, adding here the theoretical perspective of Walter Moser (2006) to Hutcheon's thinking. In another approach, we analyzed specifically the chapter "O livro dos mortos", which belongs to the novel Agá, composed of a comic book, illustrated by the visual artist José Cláudio. For this analysis, we related specific concepts of this narrative language, which uses the relationship between text and image, anchored in the thought of Barbara Postema (2018), Thierry Groensteen (2015) and Will Eisner (1989), authors who support the study of comics as a sign system with an autonomous language. Finally, we reflected upon some characters of the story, under the gaze of Cultural Studies, in particular, race and gender issues, relating them to the socio-political structure of their time and context in which the novel Agá was written, the period of the Brazilian military dictatorship. As a conclusion, we highlighted two relevant points: the first concerns to an analytical and intersemiotic survey between Hermilo's writing and the contemporary theater production in Pernambuco, which may contribute to future studies in the field of literature and performing arts; and the second consists in the production of theoretical and analytical material for the study of comics, within the context of Comparative Literature, which reinforces the scientific and relevant character of this language.
