SUMMARY:

This research brings an investigation about the woman-being towards death, in Água Viva (1973), by Clarice Lispector and the reverberations of its translations into English, The Stream of Life (1989) and Água Viva (2012). Thus, we investigated how debates about the female gender and its connection with death are constructed in that work, in order to evoke a literary-philosophical discussion of the constitution of the female subject in the narrative. Furthermore, we aimed to study how translation agents, who were concerned in the 20th and 21st centuries with the popularization of Clarice Lispector's legacy, manipulated her texts in order to evoke from it their own desires for truth. In such a way, to understand the ontological constitution of being and how women deserve greater attention for being on the sidelines of philosophical debates over the centuries, we worked with the existentialist philosophy of Martin Heidegger (2005 and 2018), the post-structuralist philosophy of Martin Heidegger (2005 and 2018), Gilles Deleuze (2011) and Félix Guattari (1995) and Jacques Derrida (2006 and 2013), and the thought about the notions of “evil” by the philosopher George Bataille (2016 and 2017). The Translation and the Reception Studies are represented in the theoretical contribution of this work by Hans Robert Jauss (1979), Maria Tymoczko (2000 and 2013) and Mona Baker (2018). To deal with Clarice Lispector's writing, which concurs in her own texture with the formation of the female subject towards death, we also brought to the theoretical scope Maria Lúcia Homem (2011), Yudith Rosenbaum (2006) and Marília Librandi (2015). The Feminist Theory is represented in this work by the presence of Silvia Feredici (2017). The conclusions pointed out that Clarice's writing, regarding the analysis presented, demonstrates two important movements. The first, regarding the aspects of translation, reveals that the source text evokes the permanence of its reception effects, even when riddled by the power of the translation agents. Then, referring to the discussion of the woman-being, it was asserted that this "non-place" is riddled by the symbology of death, catalyzing transgression for the immanent female presence, since the experience of her socialization is different from that of men because women experienced symbolic persecution due to the patriarchal collusion. Thus, death and its symbols act in the female inner experience as a presupposition of breakage and freedom.
