SUMMARY:

In this work, theoretically inscribed in the French Discourse Analysis, we propose to analyze the identification processes of Brazilian subjects with immigration status in Buenos Aires, based on their insertion in the scope of the foreign language and space, observing how this shows in their speeches. We assume that immigration constitutes an action that goes beyond physical displacement and implies a process of transformation in the ways one relates to others, to the space, to the language, altering the subjective constitution of those who immigrate. Thus, to observe the specific production conditions of this immigration, we developed, at first, a characterization of the immigration in Argentina and elaborated a description of the specificities of the Brazilian immigration to Buenos Aires, in order to offer a comprehensive panorama as a reference to the interpretation of the sayings by Brazilian immigrants, who are affected by this historicity. In dialogue with psychoanalysis, we reflect on the articulation between identity and dimensions of the real, the symbolic and the imaginary in establishing the subject of language and in the production of meaning. We suggest approaching the identification processes paying particular attention to the way in which these processes appear in the language when the in-between subject, the immigrant, talks about himself, the other and his space, affected by the game of imaginary formations. Our corpus is composed of discursive sequences obtained from in-depth interviews carried out with Brazilian immigrants in Buenos Aires. In these sequences, we seek to look at the functioning of various discursive mechanisms, understood as marks in the materiality of language that show points of tension, estrangement, adhesions and contradictions in relation to certain identification objects constructed in the discourse and which we have grouped, in this work, into two axes: identification with the other and with the city. In the first axis, we highlight mainly the functioning of comparison, universalization and polarization as mechanisms that have the effect of strengthening divisions and deepening the distance between Brazilians and Argentinians, hindering the processes of identification with the other. In the second axis, the analysis carried out allowed us to understand that the representations of Buenos Aires materialized in the immigrants' speeches produce an effect of a non-contradictory unity of the city and this vision is supported by exoticization and abstraction processes. The interpretation of the different discursive mechanisms led us to observe the contradictions between the imaginary projection of a constructed space as a terrain of possibilities, saturated, discursively stabilized and the real of a city that does not fill the gap, which exposes the subject to situations of exclusion and that shows the gap between the desired city and the lived city.
