SUMMARY:

In this work, we seek to converge two complementary investigations, with the objective of verifying    the influence of Greek and the processes of word formation in the Pharmacy lexicon, passing through more specific objectives, such as: analyzing the etymology of the lexicon; describe the formation of compounds of Greek origin and their categorization in Portuguese; compare the processes of term formation in the Pharmacy lexicon with those of the common language; describe the architecture of morphological and syntactic compounds and analyze the morpho-semantic behavior of affixes. In the first part, the influence of Greek in the Pharmacy lexicon is analyzed, in a well-defined sample, within the universe constituted by the 1066 Pharmacy terms that make up the dictionary elaborated by Fernandes (author), in the Master's Dissertation, entitled Elements for a systematization of Pharmacy Terms: a Terminology approach, defended at the Federal University of Ceará in 1998. In the second part, the processes of term formation are analyzed, taking as corpus for analysis all the terms contained in the aforementioned dictionary. The analysis of the influence of the Greek language is initially based on theoretical, philosophical and historical support, addressing the construction of meaning, the Greek influence and its categorization in Portuguese, culminating in the construction of 133 etymological sheets, with which we proceeded the analysis of variation, position and linkage of radicals and semantic drift. It is supported by a literature produced by classical and contemporary philologists, grammarians and linguists, among which are highlighted Peirce (1931), Sapir-Whorf (1929), Goes (1937), Saussure (1916), Said Ali (1931-1964) , Nunes (1919-1975), Antenor Nascentes (1932), Campos (1935), Streck (1994), Greimas (1973), Hernandez (1974), Cuesta e Luz (1971), Martinet (1974), Pedro Luft (1979 -2000), Cunha & Cintra(1984,1985),Scalise(1984),Hacken(1994),Sandmann(1989),Willians(1981),Warren(1990),Joseph(1998),Rocha(1998),Giannoulopoulou(2000),Pereira(2005),Baeskow(2004),Contende(2008),Preié (2008), Lüdeling (2009), Corbin (2001), Monteiro (1989,2002), Kastovsky (1982-2009), Ralli (2007) ,2008,2010), Brinton and Traugott (2005), Tomaszewicz (2008), Petropoulou (2009), Bauer(1988-1998-2005), Booij (2000, 2010), Almeida (2010), Faria(2011), Barreto (2012), Oliveira and Gonçalves (2011); Masip (1999, 2003); Iacobim (2004) and Villalba (1994, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012). In the description of the formation processes, based on the theory of X-Barra, the morphological and syntactic compositions are analyzed, based on the model by Villlava (2000) and the affixes used in the compositions, highlighting, in these, the constructed meaning and the phenomena of homophony and competition among them. The influence of Greek is relevant in the construction of scientific language; the order of the stems is fixed differently from those in the common language, as well as the linking of these with greater productivity through consonants. Morphological and syntactic compositions present architecture with greater complexity than those of common language. Suffixes have position-specific peculiarities and present competition and homophony within scientific language.
