SUMMARY:

The present thesis studies the works Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (1861) by Harriet Ann Jacobs and Our Nig: Sketches from the Life of a Free Black (1859) by Harriet E. Wilson. The aim is to comparatively analyze the two works written by these Black women in the 19th century within the scope of slave narratives before and during the Civil War and to analyze how they represent their transculturated cultural/national identities in the social and geographical spaces that represent the Black Atlantic of American society. The theoretical foundation and analysis objectives are based on three categories: transculturation by Ortiz (1940), Rama (2008), and Walter (2009), the Black Atlantic by Gilroy (2001), and diasporic cultural/national identities for which it was used Glissant (2005), Bhabha (2013), Hall (2013), and Butler: Domingues (2020), among others. Qualitative research will be conducted in the area of Black cultural studies through the reading and comparison of the works under study, theoretical texts, scientific articles, among others. Data will be collected through literature review and tabulated in the form of final considerations. The expected results are that the authors transculture their identities through the dynamic contacts of their diasporic cultures.
